The Xedos' engine was a 2.0 V6 from the start, while the Mondeo's was originally a Mazda-designed 2.5 litre engine from the Ford Probe.

There are still plenty of S/T's here in OZ, even the Hyundai Lantra's.

Martin Marrills STW is a BMW 320i E36 STW (ex Bigazzi) 1997. It was driven by Johnny Cecotto to 3rd position in the championship. Its now fully restored in all white. Its ready to race as it did in the Danish Special Salooncar Championship, where it with Martin behind the wheel was among the championship contenders in 2007. All original spec, as it left Bigazzi! I have asked Martin to add it on Supertouringregister, which he will do with chassisnumber and all, when the poor guy has the time Last edited by Aslak Vind; 13 Nov 2008 at 19:02. |

Super Tourers live!
OK Guys, I am lucky enough to race these fantastic cars. I had an Ex Cleland Cavalier (the 94 car, chassis No 18), and now have an Ex Leslie Honda Accord, (the 96 MSD car). There are quite a few of us with ST's who take part in the LMA Eurosaloons Championship, so for those of you who want to see the cars racing (as opposed to museum pieces !) come along to the LMA races, (full details at www.lmaeurosalooons.co.uk)

Hi John, thanks for the link as it provides a great insight to the cars still running from S/T years.
Its obviously nice to see the Mondeo and Accord in most of the orgional livery as this is what fans can relate to, if you put all the livery's back to manufacturer you would proberbly pull more spectators in !, now there an idea . Can you give an idea to running costs for this cars for each meeting? |

Is there any reason why the people running the cars do not put them back to origional liveries?. What made you but the Accord super tourer and do you know who raced it when a manufacturer car? I had'nt watched this for a while but its still the best Super tourer race ever! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q-R665bquMg Last edited by Icebaby; 23 Nov 2008 at 08:01. |

I have doubts that STs back in original livery would have any impact at all on club motorsport gates (them running does make it more appealing to go and watch LMA, although that's of little relevance to the occasional "fan" or 1990's ST fanboys who I doubt would hear of these cars running from any media source expect specialist internet or press - and any interest is unlikely to be diminished by lack of period livery). And even if original livery did bring in more customers (spectators), it's the circuit who keeps the cash - no benefit to the organising club or drivers, who still have to fund the racing somehow (and so back to my first point). |

Didn't know there was built a C-class super tourer. Was it an official Mercedes project? Any pics (probably not )?

AMG apparently prepared/built one when the first Class 1 DTM car was being built, but Mercedes went with Class 1 rather than Class 2.

There's been a couple of Mercedes 190s racing in the Swedish and Australian TCC. The Aussie one was a detuned Group A car. I'm not sure about the Swedish one but I suspect it was the same.
There were odd rumours that a SuperTouring (wings/splitter) spec Merc was built in the late 90s, I seem to recall Prodrive being mentioned at some point. If that car was built then it never saw the light of day. |
