A silly observation
The Latin word for "bread" is "panis."
And "olivier" means "olive tree". So that would make Olivier Panis an Eliopitta (Olive Bread)!! http://www.wolfgangpuck.com/images/w.../RE_WP0052.jpg http://www.ace-bakery.com/images/bread-33.jpg |

You were right with the title for this thread, the observation was quite silly.

Well, in days of old, Giovanni Lavaggi was directly translated to Johnny Carwash!

Jacques Villeneuve's name in English would be Jimmy Newton.

In a GP manager game based on 1996 he was known as Jack Newtown IIRC. Didn't want his name invloved, although with a little patch you could change and even the sound sample of Stirling Moss saying his name tha the game contained.

Jacques is actually the French for James, though, not John.

If the Schumachers were English, they'd be cobblers!

Well I guess it doesn't matter as long as you know who you're talking about.

Not that anybody really cares, but in Estonian:
MS = Mihkel Kingsepp Ralph Fir-man = Ralf Kuusemees Mark Webber = Markus Veeber Jacques Villeneuve = Jaan Uuslinn Jenson Button = Jenson(!) Nööp Jos Verstappen = Jos Pikksamm Olivier Panis = Oliver Leib Cristiano da Matta = Kristjan Metsast Not forgetting Damon, Graham and Phil Mägi, of course... And Stirling Sammal. And the 1976 world champion Jaakob Jaht. Maybe I ought to stop... |
