Did anyone actually see what happened? I think the Italian directors were too busy watching the Juventus-Atalanta game, and missed that...

it all started at the first chicane, PDLR out-braked Massa, but then went over the run off area, thus gaining an unfair advantage, but didn't concede the place back to Massa, coming up to the third chicane, Massa re-took PDLR, but then cut across him, his (massa's) rear right wheel clipped PDLR's front left and sent the Jaguar off the track and into retirement, Mass retired one lap later. |

 ..... ok... probably the press release that said "that saw both men retire from the 53 lap event" mislead me.... I took the "53" much too literally...

As Pedro was obliged to let Felipe through, he is partly to blame. Just as Kimi was obliged to let Sato through.

Mmmm. Never believe everything you read!
Anyway, let me get this absolutley straight, cos ahm confused  What we're saying is De La Rosa took a shortcut at the chicane and gained an unfair advantage over Massa, which he did not concede. And then Massa gets the penalty after a valid attempt to regain the place that should have been his anyway. Or am I missing a bit?! |

Penalty is quite stupid, isn't it?
Maybe it's too harsh... |

Well, garcon, Pedro passed Massa unfairly, but Pedro didn't damage Massa while passing. Apparently, when Massa repassed he damaged both cars.. so it was a bonehead move...
Pedro would have been penalized, just as Ralf was asked to let Montoya through. |

Remember Sepang? There's nothing that upsets FIA stewards as much as racing.

Pedro is claiming that Massa was weaving all over the place and blocking him. Perhaps that is what led to the penalty? Damn I wish I'd seen it...

Hmm haven't seen it but it sounds ridiculous!
Just one question... If it happenned when Massa repassed Pedro, how could he be weaving in front of Pedro? Surely any weaving would've been behind Pedro thus indicating an attempt to pass...... Or am I missing something? (Darn thats 2 questions!) |

I'll just reinforce what mr v has said. In no way was it Pedro's fault (IMO).
Pedro overtook Massa by skipping across the chicane. Pedro let Massa back past into the third chicane. Massa went to the left (the inside line) on the way down to the chicane. Before he had fully got past Massa turned right and hit Pedro! Taking Pedro out. This was before they had turned into the chicane and where still travelling in a straight line. Pedro's front left suspension was destroyed. Massa has a rear right puncture a lap later (due to the contact). Interesting! Massa got his just reward because he damaged himself, I'm not sure this comedy rule is needed! |

here are the comments of the both drivers:
Pedro dlRosa: I managed to get myself into 14th position and then found myself stuck behind Massa who did the most inexplicable things I have seen on a race track for ages. He kept moving all over the place and every time I made an effort to pass him, he blocked me. My patience was running out and I then made a move to pass him at the Ascari chicane when he moved over again and took my front wing off on lap 15. I had no choice to call it a day and take up the matter with the race stewards who are now looking into his behaviour. Fellipe Massa: Then on lap 15 de la Rosa cut the first chicane, but instead of moving over to let me by he stayed ahead for a lap. He was so slow going down to Ascari that I put my car in the middle of the track and, as far as I was concerned, I was past him. Maybe he hit the throttle again. Whatever, we touched, and that damaged either my right rear suspension or the tyre, so a lap later I was out. |

I think this new penalty is absolutely ridiculous, and another reason why drivers don't overtake. Now they have this stupid 'causing an avoidable accident' rule.....

I'm not sure that it such a good idea! Appeal to the FIA.
