Aerial photographs of changes to P.I.

Interesting photos and description of upgrade to Phillip Island. New pit entry and exit and miles of new sandtraps.

Interesting that they refer to the sandtrap around the sweeper as "ninety mile beach" as that beach was used for speed record attempts years ago.
The beach is on the west coast on the top of the North island here in NZ.
Does the name have an relevance in australia?

they have a **** load of work to do at the island before the moto gp, pit land is disgusting, the pit wall as been extended to the starters box, and to the flag point 21.1, with the apparent extension of 10 more pit garages.

if u go off at 6.1 driver right, u dont dip, its been raised.

pit lane needs some re bitumening to accomodate pit exit, and arcmo drivers left to turn one

just to name a few

Maybe it's safe enough now, Symins has not spent that much $ since it opened !
Still more viable elsewhere, so if EC is more viable than Bathurst maybe TC will chop it too, and have 3 EC races $$$ in a rich mans world !!!!

Why is the pit exit going to be on the outside of one of the fastest corners in Australia?

With this extended pitlane exit, does this mean then, that the stupid 40 km/h speed limit will make a pitstop about 3 minutes?

As for the "Ninety Mile Beach" comments, yes it is in Gippsland. It extends from near Lakes Entrance through to Wilson's Promontory, which, as some of you may know, isn't far from Phillip Island.

And it's probably the best beach in the world. Safe for surfers, good for surf fishing, and swimming. And for me, it's a 40 min. drive or ride away.

I don't think the pit lane speed limit would apply the whole way down to the outside of turn one. Instead of having cars entering the track at 60km/h and the cars approaching at 240km/h, they should be doing similar speeds when they merge down at turn one.

The shape of those gravel traps - looks like a ciggy packet design - certainly not done by anyone who knows about curve speeds and run-offs - well not to FIA specs anyway - AVESCO maybe?

Good to see that Mr Fox is pouring mone into the circuit to ensure it's long term viability. At least he has a second option for his helipad!

I think it was refering to the pit EXIT, whilst in essence on the inside of the track it will infact drop cars and bikes out on the outside of turn 1

I'm still amazed at AVESCO's 'PI isn't safe' theory - Surfers? Adelaide Street circuit? Bathurst? Ah yes, that's different 'cause they're not permanent circuits, safety isn't as important..... And they bring in a tonne of money...

Hey, I'm all for increasing the safety of a race track & Mr Fox should most definitely be applauded, but it really does make you think...

What is Avesco's or indeed Cochrane's connection to Eastern Creek?

I dunno, an awful lot of sand is probably better than what we've had in the past. How many deaths, serious injuries and massive shunts have we had at PI over recent times compared to the other tracks around the place? Don't forget the number of shockers at club level too...
