exactly, swindon have not a lot of experience in the flat 4. now you can make them reliable, look at porsche, they have been using boxer engines since the dawn of time but they have years of experience with them and know how to look after them. if you dont know them they go bang

I see this quoted a lot. All that was added was 10kg below the dash, this is what, in line with chest/shoulders? That would change the overall CoG less than say, swapping a Colin Turkington for a Senna Proctor in the same car!
I can't for one second believe a 10kg weight removes a CoG advantage from a car that has 100/150kg engine significantly lower than every other car on the grid. Surely the bigger impact last year was the complete lack of testing on the new sized tyre and working out how the RML kit worked with it compared to pretty much every other team on the grid.

The other thing that has changed at BMR is Carl Faux leaving. Maybe that has had a bigger impact than imagined?

Wasn't there also a weight added in the engine bay as well last season?

Has to be significant. Faux was good; very good indeed.

Nope, just under the dash. And the minimum ride height was also slightly increased

What was the Subaru only rule change this year that Shaun Hollamby eluded to in another thread?

Plato and the boost again

Quote:
We don’t have enough boost, and there are mathematical reasons for that which are quite complicated. It means we are consistently having to run at detonation point to get the best from what we’ve got.

That has a knock-on effect on reliability because we are pushing things to breaking point.

It's a shame that he's not clever enough to see the irony of using 'detonation' and 'knock(-on effect)' in consecutive sentences!

Have they decided yet what tyres they will run at the Snetterton race?

That will be decided after the Snetterton test when Dunlop will run a series of tests on different cars

It's a case of lesser of two evils. They can run the boost level they are allowed and risk destroying the crankshaft and bearings or reduce the boost as they have done and advance the spark more to regain the power. Advancing the spark more increases the chances of megaknock, especially if combustion temperatures rise. Too many megaknocks and they risk destroying pistons. As they can't afford to destroy either they are having to run a lot less power than they are allowed.

So why did last years Motors make more power and not blow up?

I suspect it is little more than the engines are old and tired now. This is the third season of Subaru and AFAIK these engines date back to day one.

Do we know that they made more power last year?

Or are down this year just compared to progress in others?

Or is the explanation that the higher power last year caused wear, that they weren't aware of?

They would have been able to sustain the boost levels for a season. Once the engine bill was finally paid, Mountune let BMR have just the engines and no spares. That has left Swindon working with tired engines. I would be surprised if Swindon will be doing much with the engines unless they get the money upfront.

How many engine changes have happened already this year? I think JP has been through two and remember both Sutton and Price started on "last years" engines. So is it really just the four from last year getting shuffled around?

Also, I can't wait for the book that someone will write about the rise and fall of BMR.

What are the chances that JP will jump over to TEAM Hard? He had good success in the CC.

Well JP could certainly fund a ride in one of Tonys cars. Thing is, since being run by BMR in 2015 they have not achieved anything approaching the success they did with CT and JP piloting.

Well they have won the title with Ash, so I'd say they topped the success they had with CT and JP
