Yes, I'm not sure of the mechanism, but it is random.

3 good performances there. With the new haircut and a clean shave, Jr boy did well. His fellow countryman also did very good. But the stand out has to be smiley man. That was a brilliant lap!

I would very much like to see the logs of who has been scrutineered and when during qualifying .

I have found the logs for FP1 and FP2 here - https://www.fia.com/file/62564/download?token=y7Pn13o6

I expect FP3 and Q will be published later.

I also noticed on the site that Williams have received a suspended fine of E10,000 for using tyres 3 seconds too long!

The car to cross the pit in line before a certain time, Massa was 3 seconds late crossing that line. There was a suggestion that he had a half spin/run wide on the in lap, that slowed him down. This made the difference.

Small offense, but Williams had a mix up with the timings and tyres earlier in the year too. I can't remember the exact situation. Was it something to do with a red flag and how that changes the timings of when you give up the first set of tyres.

In all the years I've been following F1, I never knew such a rule existed. Talk about minutia.

It was a rule introduced for a sensible reason. Basically no one wanted to go out early on and use up a set of tyres on a green track. So they said everyone could have an extra set of tyres, but they would be taken off them after the first half an hour (or whatever).

It makes sense to give teams a set of tyres they can only use in the first 40mins if it encourages them onto track. But if they are going to penalise those who overrun slightly, then teams might stay in the garage to avoid penalties?

Perhaps they should pause the session at the 40mins point and make it clear to all teams (and spectators) that there is a fixed point to return a set of tyres?

On the basis that I can only ever recall Williams having a problem and they mainly get a suspended fine I don't think there is a problem here. The majority of teams and race weekends pass without a problem.

Have the rule, have these penalties and the world keeps rotating. You are being guilty of needlessly messing and making things more complicated. You see it's easy to go there as the FIA are often accused of

That was horrendous. It was great how utterly bored Alonso looked with it. I'd hate to have been first out and have to stand there listening to that utter rubbish. And as for the drivers doing their poses. Who was Bottas waving at? I thought Hamilton was Mr T.

Nice pass on Bottas by the most overrated driver of all time.

The track really is excellent with all the different lines it allows for. Good design for overtaking and yet it seems to challenge the drivers.

What a ******s! Many cars leaving the track incl. Vettel. Then they give Verstappen 5s. for move of the day. Unbelievable.

Also not the smartest decision from Red Bull to give him a 2nd stop. Otherwise P2.

Channel 4 went to an ad break here but I thought I saw a race control message flash up for a few frames just before it... well.

Well.
