Had to start at the back of the field because it was an F2 car.
The state of F1 was relatively dire in the early years of the 3 litre formula so when the 1600cc F2 started in 1967, because the cars were faster than the old 1.5 litre F1 cars and the 2.0 litre versions that were common in F1 in 66 and 67, they decided to pad out the field with F2 cars at the Nurburgring for a few years. So there was a field of F2 cars (9) run (sub-race) in 67,

Jacky just happened to be a very, quick driver who put together an astounding lap in practice and did a brilliant job in the race till he retired.

Jackie Oliver finished 5th overall in a Lotus 48 FVA, Alan Rees 7th in a BT23-FVA, David Hobbs 10th overall in a Lola-BMW, but only the top 7 finished on the same lap, on a 14 mile course...
The race was won by Denny Hulme finishing 39 seconds ahead of Jack Brabham and Chris Amon, those two being 2 minutes 15 seconds in front of John Surtees. Oliver was another 3 minutes and 5 seconds back.

But if we lost Sauber, Marussia, Caterham, Lotus, Williams, and Force India, then having a B class for field fillers may not be such a bad idea. It would keep the drivers employed and would be a lot cheaper for the team owners if they could maintain a presence by running GP2 cars in the main event.

The sub-class could be known as the Subway class, sponsored by Subway, who are interested in F1 and race for different prize money and start money but be a race within a race, and keep the field filled while the teams who want to be the 'big money' extravaganza can race amongst themselves.
Its all a bit tongue in cheek but what is the difference in running a GP2 car rather than struggling with a F1 car when the whole field, rules, rule making and rewards, is sloped against you even surviving, let alone being competitive.

If the alcohol advertising ban occurs, and there is no escape from the world financial situation the joke may become the reality for all of us, including Mr Montezemolo, Dennis, Wolff, Horner, and others ...

The smaller teams are crying out for reduced costs all we get from the big teams is more noise to drown them out.
