Camaro Coming??
This is the second cover that AA has made about the Camaro coming into Supercar... Now... the story in the magazine suggests that VASC will be interested in changing the roll cage to largely leave the body shape intact.. Interestingly the chassis Mr Pye is running has actually been sold off to a collector, deliverable at the end of the season, while Mr Courtney’s current chassis will meet a similar fate at a Lloyds auction next weekend for delivery at season’s end... So new chassis would likely need to be built at WAU anyway.. whether they are clothed in ZB garb, or the series takes a left turn and changes a roll cage design for a non-factory team remains to be seen. If the roll cage is chamged, will the Mustangs be forced to rehomologate, so the race car has some semblance of the road car? |

Courtney's chassis "will be delivered to the new owner at the completion of the 2020 Supercars season."

Rules for some, and rules for others.

No - not the case. That is why WAU shelved plans to develop the Camaro under the current rules - couldn't make it work and the end result look OK with the current chassis frames.
If however, the chassis frame is changed so that coupes can more closely resemble the road car, Camaro could be in and Mustang could be changed to also look more like the road car. Look at that - change in the rules works for both manufacturers, might even work better for some other manufacturer models. |

If this gets legs, scrap the Mustang and start again with a clean sheet of rules for coupes.

Sums up Australian motorsport perfectly. Encourage manufacturers/teams to spend a fortune on developing a package to comply to the current rules, then chop and change it during the season before forcing them into a package that renders the current one useless 12 months later.

This is what happens when nobody does their homework.
Poor foresight from both the catagory and those involved in the Mustang's design. |

Ford should’ve done a WAU and said no we’re not building a Mustang until you change your rules so it doesn’t look like a funny car. Supercars desperate for Ford back in the category would’ve caved. Good on WAU for taking a stand. |

It's a game of politics.
Those representing Nissan this time around have sucked at it, likewise Ford over the years. Supercars knew the Mustangs, and probably Camaro too, were coming, and should've expidited the coupe chassis design. |

Is the Camaro actually selling all that well though?
Word is they're proving difficult to shift due to the high price. Furthermore, if extremely low-volume, third-party converted cars can be considered for the series, which can have a customised chassis to suit; then where does it all end? Can/should Ford for instance homologate a GT(40) next? |

Honda NSX races with a custom mid-engined chassis, that is different to the other Japan GT and DTM cars. It is not without precedent, why would you ever try to race cars with the engine in the wrong place (the front) anyway?
Sports Sedans rules allow the engine of a front-engine vehicle to be as rearward as the halfway point of the wheelbase -- those racing "Mustang", "Commodore" and "Altima" are clearly missing a trick by not utilising this rule in the build of their sports sedans. |
