Watched the race last night as I was on my way to Mosport when it was on live. Not a bad race but the track has been sanitized too much imo. Oh well that is racing today. Pit entrance is way too narrow. If someone spins or thumps the wall coming in the whole lane will be blocked (Don't let Danica in F1). I did feel FA pushed the envelope, to say nothing of LH, a bit much. If the track was the way it used to be, big crash.
While spectating at Mosport dreamed of what the F1 boys would do there today. Never happen though. Far too expensive to keep BE and Co. happy and just not enough room at turn 3 to put in enough run off. Public road too close to track. |

No, you get elbow ones too and that.......well that couldn't really work!!
I thought it was just the Scottish flag too though at first. |

If the circuit was the way it used to be, Hamilton would have been out of serious contention twice. There was the first lap dust-up with Aonso, then the twitch in Pouhon near the end of the race.
And I have to say that what Alonso did should not be permissible, especially between teammates, and that's on top of the blackmail thing with Ron Dennis. I kind of hope no one takes him for next year. You'd think any potential takers (other team principals) have got to be wary of him now. |

it's incredible how a week ago in monza everyone was hailing Alonso; yet now they've found out about assumed blackmail 2 races BEFORE Monza, he's the evil that trawls the earth!
Racing is racing...whatever happens outside of it is a seperate issue. |

They are indeed kneepads. The feed showed Coulthard slipping them down from his knees to around his ankles after he got out of the car, presumably for comfort. And the "X" is, of course, the Scottish flag.

Peter, I had no intent of starting a thread on the blackmail; however, those allegations in combination with Alonso's on-track actions at the start certainly do go together in speaking volumes about his apparent character. And hey, I'm not the one performing any character assassination. If Fernando has really done all this unscrupulous collaboration, was dumb enough to advertise it TO HIS BOSS, and let those e-mails come to light, he's done it to himself frankly.
Now, to the race itself. Peter, if those guys are good enough to know it, they should be good enough not to need that extra run-off that has neutered yet more portions of Spa! If these guys are really that good, they shouldn't need to be coddled and they should relish the challenge! If I'm really being cold, I'd say that F1 doesn't deserve to have countries and tracks grovelling before it! F1 should be bending over backwards to be worthy to run at Spa, Mosport, or the Nordschleife! And if Bernie and Max were in the same room with me trying to placate me with their business sense, I'd tell them the same thing! Grand Prix racing survived and even thrived finiancially for decades as a sport first. They did it then, so these geniuses should be perfectly capable of making it do so now. I mean, if Bernie, Max, etc are truly such gifted heads of state for the sport of F1 and the FIA umbrella! My patience for soulless and mutilated circuits is running thin. Someone, or multiple individuals, is/are responsible, and no man is beyond reproach. Ok, rant over. Last edited by Purist; 17 Sep 2007 at 21:16. |

Your point about neutering is for another topic and I'll report back if I survive my five hours of racing there in three weeks time! Again this is another topic. |

OK enough of the joking. I believe I have seen TV footage in the past of DC pull them down off his knees as he hops out of the car. They do look dam big for a knee pad though |

Having read a few things alluding to Shell and some Ferrari conspiracy but not really sure what happened, can anybody (without editorial please) relate just what was reported? I'm sure the Ferrari defenders and attackers will be out in force but maybe a clear answer will come through.

Those people complaining that the pitlane is too narrow, why don't they just widen it?
OK, you can't widen it back, but you could enrcoach say one or two metres further into the track where that (needless?) tarmac run off is positioned at the new Bus Stop exit. |

Knee pads, and i'm sure thats the Scottish "satire" (is this the right word for the Scottish cross?), same as his helmet design.

I bet he would, for some strange reason he's proud to be Scottish . I have read in some F1 programmes and publications that he's listed as Scottish as opposed to British under nationality. Where's kicking-back when you need him? |
