Should GP2 adopt the Dallara SF14 for 2015?
GP2 is all about being relevant to F1 and that means having a car that utilises as much current F1 tech as possible.
The design of the SF was influenced heavily by Dallaras experience building an F1 car for HRT. It contains many recently important features of F1 cars that would prepare drivers better in the current era of limited testing such as a 2.0L turbo engine with push to pass and KERS. The current GP2 car was introduced in 2011 and is due to be replaced in the next couple of seasons. Why bother building an entirely new car when they could just achieve the same ends with a current design for a lot cheaper? |

If I'm not mistaken the current GP2 car has been adopted through till the end of 2016, so I can't really see the SF14 being considered current in 2017, and probably will be even less relevant to the current Hybrid and conservation formula of F1 at that time.
Now why don't they have a common set of cars at this second tier of racing, well....that's a question that Mr Berger is probably looking at right now. |

Yes, and call it a Formula 2.

If you ask me, then GP2, Super Formula and Indy Lights should all share the same chassis. They are all made by Dallara anyway.

GP2 should adopt another chasis. Is high time to resurrect Lola Cars and bring them a contract as a second chassis supplier.

Furthermore the way Dallara makes its money isn't through the initial purchase of racing cars but through the purchase of replacement parts (all those smashed up front wings). So considering the GP2 teams wouldn't have to pay any development costs for the SF14 (that would have already been covered), it is reasonable to expect the cost of cars to be much less than usual. Plus spares should also be somewhat cheaper considering the scale advantage gained by having 2 large series running the same cars. Not to mention the fact that the engines used in SF are also used in japanese Super GT, meaning that there is a further scale advantage in terms of engines. Also since Nissan have developed an engine for this class, it could be rebadged as a Renault for european based series. |

would GP2 give up their V8s? i'd personally love to see the turbo 4 become the new world standard in racing as it has on the street.

Indy Lights needs a car that works on ovals AND circuits. There is no huge demand for Super Formula and GP2 to share a chassis.

I would say Indycar could well run the same chassis as SF and GP2 if they didn't a specialized chassis for ovals. |

Hence why they seem keen to incorporate an F1-style barn-door front wing onto everything they make. They look so stupid.
