"Worldwide" GT formula for Grand Am?
I'm not trying to open a can of worms here, but I distinctly remember that Grand AM were trying to make their GT formula in line with others. Somehow with the exclusion of the GT3RSR, and apparently the Mosler (see the Grand Am board), I doubt a field of cup cars or trans am machinery fits that.
Was the worldwide idea only for 2003 or does this rank up there with the "committed to SRP II for another three years" thing? |

I believe the "global approach" ended when the alliance with the FIA failed a while back.

if I am not mistaken the GTS ranks at GARRA for tube frame and semitube frame cars could allow anything From V8stars (roush motors) and JGTC to out own Trans-Am, it is very global indeed, if you want to put up with the competition equalizers

no jgtc car would ever compete in the Grand-am. there faster then the dps easy no guestion.that car would be restricted so bad it wouldn't even be funny. If you wont jgtc just wait for next summer at laguna!

yeah I know that- the JGTC GT300 class cars could run and probably be on par with the Tube Fram T/A car in GTS being restricted to "300" horsepower or so..now JGTC GT500 well these things would trounce most cars coming their way...

actually...as i stated before, the series' GT program is moving towards a more GT300 style series than the FIA definition of GT.
The allowable makes of cars make it a more "international" series than the current 2-5 make GT class |

Here's my take on the Rolex GT class. Anybody who's got a Porsche Cup or Ferrari Challenge car is now eligable to race at the Daytona 24. Also, it will take alot less expertise to build up a car from a road machine to get get into said race. It's not like every team in the SCCA can do what Prodrive did. Ashamedly, I have to say that GA is doing that right thing there, too.
What I don't like is this SGS, or whatever class they've added. I don't see the purpose of an Acura Intregra racing with a Doran JE4. The DP and GT classes are already capable of huge fields, why clutter? They should have two classes. |

Well chevy, the goal is to take the former GS I cars (Porsches and Vettes, no integras) and make them into GTs. The purpose of the SGS this year is to ease those teams into the extra expense.
Also, the GT class will be somewhat sacrificed to accomadate the SGS cars (this has somewhat already happened...hence the cup and challenge cars). Once again, the goal is cheap and wide open options for lower budget teams. I wouldnt worry about the SGS as much as the "GT" cars that were running last year as field fillers, these cars will at least be on race rubber. |

Acura Integra's run in ST not SGS. SGS is for Viper ACR's, ZO6, 911 cup etc..
In 2005 SGS and GT will be merged into 1 class. |
