i would have to say.....the bentley from 2001, i dont know why but the larger 4.0 litre engine in the bentleys sounds worse compared to the audi's, maybe its something to do with exhaust length, having sadi that there basicaly the same car! however again, 2003 bentley sounded different to 2001 car, Nicer aswel!

I've never heard an unpleasant engine at Le Mans.
Each engine has its own charm ; even a 4 cylinders turbo (Toyota 87, WR or Lotus 95) is "listenable". |

panoz's growly thumping was beautiful. by that i mean the original panoz machine, the sound of that down in the dip after crainer curves and you were standing on the bank was just amazing

Its a beautiful sounding machine Patrick ..... I wish my garbage man had an engine that sounded like that and not like some **** truck that wakes me up at 7am wednesday mornings . Love to wake up to the sunshine and sweet twittering of a full blown Panoz though .....

Agree with Badger, the Panoz was/is sweet music to my ears.
However, IMO, the Mugen powered Panoz I saw at RA a few years ago was the worst sounding car I ever heard... |

Ayse, it may not be GT1, but put your finger on the Mig in '93.
Luckily it didn't qualify, and that in itself tells a tale. If a Lambo V12 can sound that bad, then something must be wrong... There's also some shocking sounds come out of the toilet blocks in Maison Blanche, but maybe that's for another thread... H |

Although I did find one sound vey painful after 24 hrs. If a 911 went by, something hurt bad (a piercing kinda pain) inside my ears, even had to resort to placing my fingers in the ears everytime one went by towards the end of LM last year. It only happened with porsches though, was fine with everything else....(including Panoz's) Weird. And you want great sound check this out.... http://www.thard.co.uk/lemans/lmvideos/TertreRouge6.avi Now how can you say thats awful! |

Well, I don't know about bad, but a few were just plain uninspiring. I had a Triumph Herald in 1976 with a broken exhaust manifold that sounded better than the Audis, and the Bentleys were only marginally better. I was never really keen on the 962 sound either, although it made up for it with its looks.
Maybe the Peugeot in 93 made the Mig sound worse by comparison. On second thoughts, no. It was bad. H |

The contrasting sounds of sports cars is one of the more intriguing aspects of the sport and caters for all musical tastes, two of my personal favorites are the Judd V10 and the big Mercedes V8 out of the CLR (around 6lt I think) I would have really have loved to see that motor in some other chassis. ie ORECA Dallara.
