Chris Townsend should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lola T240

Seeing the ad for a rather nicely restored T240-HU10 reminded me that we haven't so far touched on any of these quickly forgotten Lolas.

My records have the following:

HU1. Works F2 development car for Gardner and Marko
HU2: Probably Hayes for Mike Hiss
HU3: Probably Skip Walther
HU4: Syd Demovsky, retained 1972
HU5: Probably Rocky Moran
HU6: Probably Chuck and Jim Sarich
HU7: Probably Chuck and Jim Sarich
HU8: Unknown 1971, 1972 Wannemacher. 1973 Ed Kasprowicz
HU9: Don't know
HU10: Don't know, but the resoration is good!
HU11: Don't know
HU12: Quin Calhoun. 1973 Carmon Solomone, retained 1974
HU14: Don't know
HU15: Late season Hayes car for Hiss and Moran. 1973 to Ted Titmus, see ad on www.racecars.com
T242: HU16 [1972] Don't know
HU17 Don't know - only two T242s built.

Any advance on this?

Chris

jamesl has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
There are two running in historic F2, Bob Juggins' car and Tim Barrington's. Not sure of the chassis numbers but both are absolutly immaculate.(and very quick)

Chris

Have you got hold of Lola's records for the T240 or do they just say 'Haas' everywhere?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't T242 the original designation of the T240 based F5000 car that became known as T300? So was there a "real" T242 for F2, Atlantic or whatever?

I think that they were all, bar HU1, built as FBs
There were only two official 242s, both ended up in the US. I don't think Gardner's experimental 242/300 was part of the build series

I owned HU-17 T-242 for a while in the 80's. Bought it from someone in Kentucky, US. Never got around to restoring it and sold it less motor to someone in North Carolina who wanted the suspension and bits for an autocross car. Did not keep track of him. Sale would have taken place around 1988. I can confirm it was built as a atlantic, not a F5000.

T242 HU17 for sale Autoweek 11 Jan 82 p. 32 Vegantune t/c 614 864-5800; 614 876 1902 chassis number given, seller is Tom Young. I wonder if this is a relative of Bob Young, the Colorado banker who ran a T242 in 74/5 before buying a T360. Is 614 Denver or Boulder district code?
I think Bob Young is still racing in SCCA or historics.
Charles, I'm hoping you've run across him.

614 864-5800 is Reynoldsburg, OH and 614 876 1902 is Hilliard, OH. They are both suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. A long way from Colorado.

But not that far from Kentucky which makes sense.

The only pre 82 T240/242 I've got in Ohio is that of Robert Jones [Tipp City OH] in 1975/76, which was, I think, a T240

Allen's post brings back memories. Tom Young and I met half way between his place and mine in Memphis. I believe it was Bowling Green, Kentucky near the Corvette factory. I worked on the tub and suspension for a while then got involved in S2000 and atlantics and sold the beastie. I got it as a roller and sold it the same way. It resided at Essex Racing in Atlanta for about a year as I was going to have Michael Gue restore it. That never happened and I collected it. I can not remember where it went unfortunately. I remember the gent wanted to use the gearbox and suspension for an autocross car. I hope he changed his mind and kept it original.
