After a two-month break, the Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) and Asia Max Challenge (AMC) resumed with its third round of the Series, held at Sepang Kart Circuit, Malaysia on 12 and 13 May. Daim Hishammudin of BHPetrol Racing was driving very well all weekend, consistently at the front of the pack. Unfortunately, the 13-year-old Singaporean met with an incident by another driver on the 12th lap. That cost him the lead as well as a potential win for the race.

Daim was putting up a strong performance all weekend, topping the timesheets and dominating the 23-driver grid of the Junior category. Starting up front in the race, Daim was leading when the over-zealous driver behind him made a mistake on the 12th lap and sent both of them off the track. They quickly got out of the karts and managed to continue with the race, with Daim finishing in 12th eventually.

“I am definitely feeling very disappointed as I was on the pace and I was confident for the race. I was aiming to win this and dedicate it to my mum for Mothers’ Day. She has been to every single race of mine, with the exception of one, and her support means a lot to me. The incident was a real pity and I had to work my way up the order again. It is upsetting but this is racing and I will just look forward to the next race. Fingers crossed for better luck next time!” said Daim. The Series takes another two-month break before its fourth round to be held on 14 – 15 July at Sepang again.

2012 is Daim’s second year in the Junior category – he will be racing in the Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia, Asia Max Challenge and All Stars Karting Series in Malaysia, as well as travelling to Europe for some races to continue gaining exposure and experience from the higher levels of competition there
