Atrocious weather conditions dominated the final race of the weekend as the FIA European Formula 3 Championship visited Austria on the first weekend in August.

Both Raoul Hyman and Fabian Schiller, having shown great driving performances before in such difficult conditions, were aiming for top results but the race long safety car meant that most everyone finished where they started.

It was a different story in the first two races of the weekend, as both Team West-Tec F3 drivers left a positive impression. Raoul had qualified reasonably well and raced hard both times and finished 11th both times. While disappointed with being outside the top ten, he had been consistently competitive and was in the top six of first year Rookie drivers on both occasions.

Fabi had qualified a little lower than Raoul but finished a racy 19th in race one, before a late race incident cost him a better position in race two. This was particularly unfortunate as it was the fourth time this year he has been hit from behind by another driver through absolutely no fault of his own.

The series now enjoys a short break before reconvening at Portimao at the beginning of September for the final two official test days of the season.

Raoul Hyman: Conditions were very poor on Sunday. After two aborted attempts behind the Safety Car, racing was abandoned and the race deemed run. The decision was based on safety, and to be fair was perhaps correct. Whilst the track was driveable, there was standing water in sector two and at the end of sector three, and that made it dangerous.

John Miller, Team West-Tec F3: Both drivers raced well, though Fabi was again unlucky to be shunted from behind once again. I think we were well-placed for Sunday but the weather Gods were against us, which was a shame but safety has to be paramount.

Team West-Tec F3 made its FIA F3 debut in 2014, finishing sixth in the Teams Championship in just its first year, working with HWA-Mercedes as engine partner. Team West-Tec F3 enjoys team support from Nielsen Chemicals, Eibach, B-G Racing, Mechanix, MIS Locktons and Freem GB.
