Lowndes should have been black flagged??
Forget the incident that caused the damage for a moment.
I'd like to ask why a crippled car, with the front wheels pointing in different directions, can be allowed to continue in a race on one of the quickest circuits in Australia. We have seen others pulled in for flapping body work all year. Id have thought this car posed a greater threat to competitor safety then, for example, some flapping plastic. If Lowndes had popped a tyre who knows who he could have cannoned into. Poor form stewards, he should have been in the pits and made to fix the problem. |

Ive seen worse damage to steering allowed to continue ... He still seemed to be peddling around ok albeit a lot slower only ended up 4 laps down with all the stops.
I am sure it would have been looked at. |

Yeah, I reakon he did an unbelieveable job of continuing on with the car like that. At no time did he or his car look dangerous or hamper any other driver.

the job Lowndesy did of getting that car around 30 laps of Phillip Island was truly remarkable and was a bight spot in a day of grubbiness....

Lets get the rules straight, the question asked should have been "should lowndes been meatballed?"

Lowndes was perfectly well-behaved. If he was constantly in the way and a general menace to others on the track I would have understood a black flag.
But at no point did I ever see him hold anyone up or get in anyone's way. |

Poor form Stewards?
I'm a little bit lost here. Since when do the Stewards black flag cars? I thought that is the job of the Clerk of Course or the Race Director. |

Indeed you are correct, a Black Flag comes from the Clerk of the Course, although he may have been in discussion with the stewards beforehand.

Black Flag..or Racing Incident??
As a Flaggie...I try to be as impartial as possible...and, to me,
Craig went into the corner too hot (probably defending his possie as well), got a little out of shape....Kelly decides to go with him. Faced with a rapidly slowing, out of shape car...Kelly could either not stop in time or decided (ohh well) give him a nudge. Whether either of them thought it would end up in such a hoo-hah is anybody's guess Its the sort of thing you see time-after-time....the difference this time was all the hype associated with the Championship points. |

Cars get damaged all the time. How often do you see cars driving around with bonnets bent up after a nose to tail touch. You could claim that if the bonnet pins are damaged the whole bonnets could easily fly up blocking the drivers view. Skaifey deliberately turned off his rain light (which is a requirement when you have wets on) at Sandown in 2003 because he was losing power. The rain light is there for a reason, so the car behind can see you through the spray. So you could argue that he deliberately caused a safety concern but he wasnt asked to come in and fix it either. |

would have taken at least 4 laps with no guarantees.
he only ended up 4 laps down from memory. I think all he was doing is peddling around hoping something major would happen to Rick putting him back in the race for the championship |
