Well, this was put forward on here awhile back but if I recall correctly, things went a little awry! At least we now know that this appears to be a serious attempt at getting these cars out. My concern is how many of the modsports remain; surely most of those fabulous wide wheel arched E-types, Tuscans and Elans were converted back to original spec. because of their value. Modsaloons may be a better bet, however. There really is nothing on that website yet; let's see how it develops. If it gets off the ground and there are enough cars to get a decent grid, then fantastic, and I wish the series well; I'd love to see some of those cars out again.

As has been said above and before in other thread a lot of these cars don't exist anymore and I think Masters/Top Hat are half inviting them in.
It would be interesting to see this take off but the only car I can think of off the top of my head that is still racing today is Tony Davies in his Firenza, I don;t know of any ohters and would be very surprised if any turned up. |

I had a couple of modsports spridgets. The better one (coil springs , big discs etc.) ended up in Japan with a collector.
I should have thought that unless they were very special many will have been scrapped. |

My first racing car was a magenta colour GT6."dont ask me why please" Modsports seemed like a good place to start racing. It took me and 2 friends 2years to build and the car was not very good. The straight 6 sounded wonderfull and noisy no silencers in those days.I only raced the car 5 times in 1977 with a 3rd in class at Brands when everyone had broke down including Mr Palmer" propshaft fell off" . If anyone has any photos of my old car i would love to see them please. As far as i know it was the one and only modsports GT6 racing at that time.

Here's an example of some of the cars at a BRSCC meet at Combe in September 1976. Elsewhere Mansell in in a FF, Needell in FF2000, Davina/Divina Galica featured in a couple of races, Whizzo Williams in a Renault 5, Bob Toleman, The Streaker..... oh the memories

When I spoke to Chris last season he was very keen to get it going, but nothing seems to have happened. He believed that there were quite a few cars about. There must be several Turners, Davrians, Spridgets etc.

It would be nice indeed to see a smattering of Elans, Porsches, Midgets, Ginettas, Triumphs, Davrians and maybe if it still exisits the Blackbrick/Superbrick Caterham that Rob Cox used to pedal so well. What ever happended to that?

There are a few suitable cars in Ireland. I have a couple of Imps, one on the button and there are at least 2 others here which are running. Also 4 Modsport Midgets and the TMC Costin...........

I spoke to Chris yesterday about this and he is still out to make it work.
It seems the website developer he was using has health problems and he is now looking for someone who can help him finish the website. If there is anyone out there he said please contact him via his number or email address which are both on the site. He wants to find people with cars this year and give people time to get them sorted out and then have some races in 2009 to see how popular it is. He is looking for proper modsports cars. No thundersalons or silhouettes or bike engined cars. Off the top of my head I think the regs are looking along the lines of: It must have the original chassis but there is no problem with adding spaceframe to it. Engines must be from the original family of the engine originally in the car and engines and gearboxes must be located in the same place. No mapped (electronic) fuel injection is allowed but the original Lucas mechanical will be. Classes are looking something like upto 1300. 1300 to 1600. 1600 to 2000. over 2000. Other wise big slicks, wheelarches, wings etc.. I think the cut off date is 1982. I might be wrong on some of these points but I think they're about right. Best thing is to give him a ring and have a chat. He definitely wants to get some momentum going. |

Be great if it came off - but thing they will struggle to get grids or real or even replica's of the original crazy cars.

My first concerns would be:
Are there enough cars out there to make it worth it and are they in a condition to race as I'm guessing that most would need modern safety upgrades at least. Secondly, is another race series really needed? |
