DSC exclusive , Porsche Push For Radically Different LMP1
Exclusive – Porsche Push For Radically Different LMP1
We’re hearing from a very good source that Porsche intend to break the sportscar mould with their planned 2014 Le Mans contender, adhering to the ‘two seater’ rule but mounting them in line astern. Known internally as the “kayak” concept the Stuttgart based auto maker is now actively lobbying for the concept to be given the green light by ACO rulemakers. DSC’s source revealed too that the Deltawing concept had given the car’s designers food for thought but not in the way that Ben Bowlby intended – One early Porsche concept sees the general layout of the Deltawing reversed with a wider front section and a narrow rear, the front section would enable the car to have sufficient front aero to provide major useful downforce whilst the narrow rear, with engine, hybrid systems and gearbox mounted in line astern, benefits from radically reduced drag. The current development concept is dubbed Fahrradgemachtfürzwei by Porsche’s motorsport Skunk Works though we can expect a more marketable moniker by the time the new car sees the light of day in late 2013. Compliments of DailySportscar.com OMG , I can just imagine . Last edited by The Badger; 1 Apr 2012 at 07:39. |

it cant be worse than the dw looking forward seeing the car. two seats in that small cockpit of the current lmp coupes is a waste of space
but... how can they influence the new rules now. I would imagine the aco are putting the final touches on the 2014 rules to be ready in time for le mans? |

Yeah , LMS fell for it though , Just imagine what that may look like if it happened . Which it could if it was entered under the 56 pit , as there doesnt seem to be any rules .

Should be careful with this kind of joke, I'll always remember the Autosport one from the '90s
The 2 seater F1 car had just been introduced & they claimed that Ferrari were developing a 3 seater... then it actually happened |

Was the thing I read in Autosport once about Donington re-surfacing the pre-war track layout and connecting it with the proposed GP Layout also an April fools?

That was actually real, it was an idea they had for what they would do after they'd reprofiled it for F1.

I liked Subaru's announcement of a Self-Cleaning car from yesterday. Especially given the announcement of a Hosepipe Amnesty in Thames Water region, where you could hand in your hose during the water shortages this summer. Just turn up at your local Police Station with your 30 metre hose!

are there any photos yet of the Porsche? I had heard it was using 1/3 of the 917 engine, turbocharged of course, to fit with the new world engine order.
I am filled with excitement, the return of Turbo Porsches! |

Actually, it is going to be much more an evolution of the Lohner-Porsche with a flux-capacitor.
