Is that Aragon? The place looks so generic that I couldn't tell anyway, but I would guess so since bunch of other teams are testing there too right now (Prologue for Prologue?). Therefore you'd also think there would be more shots of this thing.

Yeah that's Aragon. His tweet location said "Calanda, Spain", that's a town in Aragon.

Dunlop tire test, apart from ELMS/WEC entrants Glickenhaus was there and a few GT3 teams seem to have been there as well.

Similar weather conditions, and I think I read somewhere (might have been in something related to a Toyota LMP1 test session there) that the tarmac itself (in terms of grip levels, texture, behaviour in various temperature ranges etc.) is much more representative of places like Le Mans compared to Ricard.

Portimao sees to have lost some testing appeal in turn. Even though it has just as hot weather and greater elevation changes.

That picture emphasises how ugly the dorsal fins on LMPs are. I know it's for safety reasons but I wish they weren't there.

True but if the regulations increase LMP1 cockpit height any further they might, perversely, help to make profile look less clunky and DPG1/2 esque...

motorland aragon is pretty distinctive as circuits go - especially the surroundings. that's just a really overfiltered photo!

iirc it's very well priced compared to ricard (a day's exclusive circuit rent there is absolutely extortionate in relative terms), and it has similar benefits for unhindered day/night running. there's a good variety of circuit layouts, and the main back straight at the lower end of the circuit on most of those layouts is also very long. the weather isn't *quite* as good - the risk of snow and ice at lower temperatures is more significant because it's at about 450m behind a set of mountains that can and do get snow (as late as late april). ricard is directly on the med coast, and it's rare for anything that close to the sea to get snow below 500m.

portimao has great weather, but suffers with subsistence and the track surface is very bumpy as a result, iirc.

To me the only distinctive thing about Aragon is that stone wall, otherwise I rather not lay my eyes on it.

But good intel bella.

As far as bump go, you would think teams would want them in their LM prepup, to iron things out in the cars (just as with Sebring testing)

yeah, i know the bumps sort of crossed the threshold of being too much for single seaters almost a decade ago (source: friend who was an engineer in f3 at the time) so how much relevance that has to sportscars and prototypes is probably a question for someone a lot more involved. iirc algarve pro were using it as a test venue for their car last year. do they have a straight long enough to make it le mans relevant too?

also, perhaps a little more importantly, motorland is a day's driving for trucks from santander (for uk based teams coming off the ferry) or the french side of the spanish border for the euro based guys. i'd say portimao is more like 3 days which is ok for the uk teams coming from santander but for the euro guys coming from germany i think it pushes it into a 6 day drive, where the driving hours start to get messy and could well require a 2 day break for one driver or possibly it could be double manned. so it starts to get very costly both in manpower and time.

disclaimer: ricard could well have a special rate for big cheeses like toyota, wec, etc. but your average team or track based business get absolutely rinsed. even with a hefty discount it would only bring it level with average joe's rate for a circuit like valencia or barcelona.

I can't believe you compared Algarve's, which is on the extreme South of Portugal and Europe, to Aragon's weather, which is relatively in Northern Spain, Chiana.

http://www.renaultsport.com/Ice-and-...ad-to-the.html

more recently and WEC related:
http://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/we...746_18859.html

Such news would be very unusual for Portimao's testings.

The thing is, Algarve's location is very good for better weather but it makes it more isolated from the typical bases of motorsport teams.

curiously, for a day like next sunday, the min forecasted for Algarve is only 4C hotter than Silverstone, but the max's gap is expected to be 13C!

Good one

I wondered why they put it so far ahead of the others. It didn't even appear on the main (side) picture S365 and some other outlets released few days ago. Maybe they didn't want closeup shots by Dunlop people or whatever

Pretty sure they used the 2015 car in this test. No differences at all on front and rear and also from the side.

Only it's the same cars it usually leads- GT's and lmp2's. I do hope they make a step forward this year.

Assuming they still have the "old car" and it hasn't been transformed into one of these two "new chassis".

Though I'm not actually sure if the second chassis ever actually materialized, particular with the continuation of the singleton race entry.

And if the second car does exist, why wouldn't they use that as the test mule instead.

Maybe it's the "new" one instead but the outside aero changes are far more subtle than expected and it's more or less just the internal component and part revamp. Or it's some kind of interim spec.

what do you mean for "new" one?
as far I know, the CLM is just an updated lotus T128, that basically is an adess chassis powered by the AER engine.

Hard to say if it is the new monocoque with the old bodywork. Don't know how in which points the changed the front suspension layout differs. Could also be the new car is still not ready or they don't want to show it to the rivals. Similar to all works teams. I am pretty sure the aero package will differ a lot. They need more downforce for less drag. You will not achieve this with subtle changes. I expect a new front layout and a changed rear end.

Please guys don't repeat this stupid story the car is a Lotus T128 all few weeks. It didn't get more true the more you repeat it. The monocoque is based on the ADESS design but it is a new one and the car is completely different to the Lotus. Please accept this fact !!!

Where the hell are they hiding this thing? Supposed to be at Ricard yet not seen a single shot? Have they not arrived yet? I've been trying to find something numerous times today.

I wish they would make all yellow car, as that is the most striking color there is, and also very sparsely used in sportscars now. That would not only please Yellow Wings sponsorship, but also make the car distinctively different from anything else in LMP. By having unique outlook everyone can recognize, instead of the blandness now, they could compensate for the lack of media coverage they otherwise receive. But I bet they'll just turn up with the same grey again. Or have more white once more. Or cloned white-black-red like the others.
