If it is just a scam? Then they needed a car to crash? This doesnt place much "trust" in Jaguar.
Or would they have said that it had fallen off in the race if both cars did finish. Good publicity if you have people running around in the streets looking for a "lost" diamond. |

All joking aside, although he is having to endure the 'pain' of their current performance, the doubled edged sword is that Jaguar's position in the standings should make it easier for Webber to get out of his contract wihtout Flav or FW writing out too many big cheques.
I believe that there is no easy (cheap) get out for MW if Jaguar are in the top 6 of the WCC, they are currently last on 1 point, the current 6th placed team is McLaren on 5 points (hard to believe I know)... |

O.K, So Who's Nicked the Diamond?

Has to be the most dumba$$ idea of the season, stick a £150,000 stone on the nose of an F1 car at Monaco, and the car crashes and surprise, surprise the rocks missing . Maybe that explains why the marshalls were on the track so often, they were trying to get the loot before everyone else had a chance to look for it. A case for Inspector Clouseau ?. |

They've probably gotten that much extra press out of it that next year they'll bolt on the Star of Africa and still get value for money.
Anyway, it gives a reason to talk about the Jags for another week, other than the fact that they can't give Webber equipment to do the job. I wonder if Williams will start strapping gold bars to their cars to prepare for Mark's arrival? After all, they've already got a nugget in the cockpit of one of them.... |

Of course it was a PR stunt, the Oceans 12 plot is about tracking down a diamond too, so I think it's a superb PR stunt - why else would people around the world be talking about Jaguar? They've even put up a Reward for finding it - a Jaguar Sportscar. V.clever idea, I'm impressed. Plus, why pic Monaco? Because it's a street circuit, and thus the public can search the streets for it - if it was on a standard circuit, there wouldn't be a mass treasure hunt, as no-one would be allowed on the course! V.clever by Nav, Carrie and Jane in the Jaguar Press Office - very original idea.

It's not yours to sell. And in a specialist trade like diamonds, people know where things come from. |

I heard on the radio this morning the diamond is valued at $322,000 while the Jaguar X-Type offered is valued at $40,000. Beyond the PR stunt, the owner of the diamond did not bother to get it insured either. How is it that people with so much money on their hands seem to have so little brain matter?

Imagine how it would cost insuring a diamond going at 290kph/h in a F1 race!

Anyone find a diamond?
The Jaguar F-1 team is offereing a new road car in exchange for a diamond that was lost in a shunt during the recent Monaco weekend. See: http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/11249/

If you are dumb enough to put an expensive diamond in the nose of a F1 car at Monaco, driven by a half baked driver, and it gets lost, then too bad, so sad.

If it's a PR stunt, then did Klien crash deliberately?

it's the marshals. they rigged Sato's car in parc femme to create the diversion and a very appropriate smoke screen.
