All the Marches were second hand as far as I've been able to tell. A Ralt RT1 was bought new by Cicale but even Trueman's "822" in 1982 was a 812.

Does anyone know where the stampped number would be found on the tub because we've had this tub completely torn apart by one of the best shops in the western U.S. and they were unable to find any identifying marks. Is it possible that at some point the car was in a wreck that the section of the tub with the I.D. marks had to be replaced?

I googled.
There's a description here of where the tub number is found: http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/mar...1/802m01ss.htm |

I have heard some info on teh project 4 802 cars going to usa to race in can am 802-13 & 18 Lunken etc
will sort out this later tonight 802-7 i think still around ( i thought he had 822 sheckter car) 802-6 info wrong -car raced in 93 94 was hillclimb sprint car that came back to Uk from ZA sold in 1999 to a man who does not race also the Japan cars could have raced in f2 or Grand Champion races with can am bodies more info March 802/ 812 # 17 car with BDG sold last year? see info This F2 car had the same monocoque and layout as the 792 but with chisel nose, front aerofoils, side radiators, and venturi sidepods though without sliding skirts. it was another superb customer car, one of the best Marches ever made, but in the Championship it was beaten by the well-funded Toleman-Hart team. March still took three victories and Teo Fabi was third in the Championship behind the Tolemans of Henton and Warwick. This car was raced by Andrea de Cesaris, with the Team Project Four (Ron Dennis) in the European F2 Championship in 1980. It then was upgraded by the March factory to 1981 specs and was raced in the British F2 Championship by Paul Smith (BMTR). |

Paul S raced the car in a few Euro F2 races in 81, NOT the British F2 series. The latter didn't exist after 1972, other than the renamed BF3000 series in 1992-93 or so.
Shame really, I reckon after AFX died in 1980, they should have introduced a F2/FAt series, rather than FAt alone. At that time, there were a good number of half-decent 'national-level' F2 drivers/teams in Britain that could have supported such a series. After 1980, these F2 cars/drivers had nowhere to go. Then again Webby never rated F2 did he? |

Smiffy raced the car in Aurora as well ( i think that is what they meant by UK F2) i think yr right F2 FA series made more sense plus some f2 cars where made into FA cars for uk series
as it was the car owners either went F Libre or made GT cars with their machines Interserie was there to run in but crossing the water and borders was not easy thing for privateers to want to do with Carnets cash deposit bonds etc |

DW, Smiffy did NOT race the 802 in AFX. He didn't get it 'til 81, when AFX was dead. He did race his 782 in AFX from mid-80 on, as we know that car(s) is a can of worms ain't it !!

A couple of good 802 pics on 'The Other Place'. The Roy Baker (ex-Kim) car and 1 of the Brutschin ones. I've never seen any pics of the Baker car, OTOH he only ever raced it once or twice I reckon??

Here are photos of March 802-3, the F2 car owned by Nick Gjomeric of Belleville, Illinois, USA and the former Hoshino car (and then painted in black and some red) and before that the works test mule, painted as seen with BMW engines. Restored from a dusty relic by the very talented John Rogers Engineering of Connecticut, USA Weekend of 7-21/22/2007, my son 11 y.o. Noah Graham Hutson trying it out for size. He's about as big as Ricardo Rodriguez was when he was 15 y.o. and beat all those California hotshoes in a Ferrari at Riverside eons ago... Best, David |

March 812 - 8
March 812 - 8 has been found ! Still in mostly original condition, with new bodywork, it will be recomissioned that year. A friend of mine bought the car recently and received documents, telling its history as team car of Franz Konrad (1982), Karl Hasenbichler (Interserie with Audi turbo engine and closed bodywork, 1984 - 1995), private colection in Germany (restoration with orignal BMW engine, 1996 - 2007).
At the forum it was told Franz Konrad used 802's for the 1982 season. Can anyone help with that chassis ? I desperately tried to enclose pictures to my mesage ?! kind regards MB-AC |
