See that the organisers have confirmed a Winter Series again for early 2013, and the main 2013 calendar.

If possible, an even better set of circuits than last year! Silverstone replaces Brands Hatch.

Winter

Paul Ricard
Jerez

Summer

Portimao
Paul Ricard
Nurburgring
Silverstone
Hungaroring
Spa
Monza
Barcelona

I heard that F3 Italia might not be present in 2013, this should surely boost F3 Euro Open, which is still soooo underrated.

In 2012 Italia had a very poor grid and Open had between 21 and 27 at each round

I think they can be used on F3 Copa class. Also, I expect to see JD/Mygale running on German F3 next season. They have talked about it.

Yes, could be used in the Copa Class or used in German F3 where they run the older cars as the newest allowed

British F3 is relaxing the rules for eligibility of National Class for 2013 in order to attract entries from other series, including Euro F3 Open

Lets talk about rides and riders.

Liam Venter will be with our best man John Miller with a F308 : http://www.liamventer.com/news4.html

Russian next F1 wannabe Nagulin is in negotiations with Campos concerning a European F3 Open ride.

Yes, Liam will join Sean Walkinshaw and Cameron Twynham in the Team West-Tec F3 Copa line-up.

Ed Jones and TBA x2 in the F312s.

All out in both Winter Series and Main Series.

I am pretty curious with all West-Tec signings. With the new F4, F-Renault BARC and the revamped National Class, I am very surprised they landed the three british boys.

F4 and FR BARC are entry level Formula. I am sure F3 Open grids will be up on 2012 and it was easily the most popular F3 series this year.

Would like to see 2012 FR BARC & 2011 British/European FF Champion Scott Malvern get a seat in this championship. He'd do a good job!

Here's hoping someone offers him a deal!

So is Intersteps a highly rated junior series?

Intersteps was using the Mygale FBMW cars in a series that was designed not to clash with key dates in the academic year, so as to meet the MSA's 'U18 friendly' criteria. The series was aimed at 16-18 year olds moving up from Karting

Four teams ran cars in the series, With MGR & Fortec been the front runners. the top two drivers in the series, Matt Parry & Matt Mason had both had a years experience in other classes (FF and BARC FR) which gave them an advantage over the other drivers that were, almost all, totally new to cars.

While Mason and Parry were the class of the field, other drivers put in good performances as they gained experience over the season. Fortec's Jack Aitken was the only other driver to win races and his development throughout the season, shows he is a driver to watch, and was certainly the best of the rookie drivers. Indeed, he was runner up in the FR winter series & will probably race in the FR NEC series this year.
Liam Venter, who is also moving into F3 Open, was very fast at times, but unlucky and has the potential to develop into a very good driver.
Sean Walkinshaw joined the series late, Round 4?, and was fast at times, driving for SWB Motorsport.

Sadly, the series was as expensive as BARC FR and with the new F4 and winged FFord been launched the series wont run this year, but the similar aisian and Swiss series continue.

To answer your question succinctly, no. It struggled for grids and, whilst I want to avoid an argument over the potential quality of drivers, it didn't seem particularly strong but then it was aimed at a niche in the market.

1) you can only truly judge the strength of a development category after a few years when you can see how the people involved have proceeded in their careers.
2) Intersteps as a series has produced some potentially very good drivers, one of the 2012 class, will I think, all things been equal, go on to become a pretty decent F1 driver, whilst some of the others will, hopefully, have good careers in higher levels of racing.
The series also allowed young mechanics and engineers an opportunity to work with high quality professional teams and gain experience, so that those suitable will be qualified to move onto roles in higher formulas.
the fact that 3 drivers have graduated to F3 Open and others to FR NEC suggests that Intersteps has actually succeeded in developing those drivers.

While the grid sizes as a whole were very disappointing there is no doubt that the general quality was much higher in Intersteps than in BARC Renault
