Thanks to Maggots
I was at Silverstone yesterday. Unfortunatly not racing, but my father was.
A couple of laps into practice he slide of into the gravel at Maggots! He thought he was beached, for the remainder of the session and even in danger of getting his three laps in (not sure if he had done two or three)! However along came the tractor and with help of a little digging from the marshals down there managed to get him out and he managed to get in another five minutes or so of practice. He remarked that he wished he could thank the marshals down there and I said I'd post this as way of a thankyou. In the end he had a good race which included a fun dice. Thanks |

You will find that is actually common practice at silverstone...
Most if not all of the gravel traps are covered by vechiles. permission is usually granted unless there is only a few minutes to go until the end of the session. and if the driver asks then with permission they can restart... So I would say to all drivers who visit us in the gravel. Just because you made a mistake it may not be the end of you day. |

Well said Scorch. At other circuits where we don't have the fine resources that the guys at Silverstone have, we do try and push the cars out of gravel traps in order to give the driver a chance at resuming his practice session or race. As Scorch will tell you, that can only be done if it is safe to do so, but we do try and help drivers where it's possible.
