Larger LM grids

I've heard rumours that the number of staring places at LM may be increased in the coming years. Anyone heard anything?

Yes, I heard! But where? I think it was in one of the topics on this forum.

An increased grid would be nice.

I'd like it to return to the 55 (pre starship). I see no reason why not (apart from pitlane). A bit of work may get a few more pits in now the FIA have ditched the maximum pitlane length rule.

The circuit is big enough to cope.

If Sebring can cope with 60+ starters, surely Le Mans can cope with up to 70... (assuming they can squeeze in enough garage space)

Confirmed : it's not a rumour, it's a goal for ACO in the following years, they're working on it !

Fantastic news, it's sad that grid sizes are being reduced in motorsport over the last few years/decades.

thats good, maybe TVR wont be the slowest, and Morgan can come back, they need to increase the GTS class, thats where the fun is.

Only at PQ, they did a great job for qualifications, as Morgan last year during the race, and Spyker this year...

Well I'm sorry, but it's difficult to see any more manufacturers entering prototypes in the next couple of years, and GTS looks pretty static unless Aston Martin actually decide to build a car rather than just talk about it, so the only place I can see another 5 entries coming from is GT, which will probably mean more Porsches unless Morgan put a factory effort together, or more no-hopers like the Norma. Then again the ACO might suprise me.....

I'll be glad to see more starting spots, but just 55? Take a look at Nurburgring-210 cars!! How long is that pitlane?

The real problem is the Ford Chicane. If it was like it was before they had it then they would have no problem with the extra cars.

BTW, if you check, you'll see that we have less 911 on the grid than in the 70'...

But with 55 cars instead of 50, we may have 1 bonus car in each category... including a Morgan !!!

Well they could put a chicane ealier before the current one. Check this proposal from 94.

Interresting ! I didn't know this one at all...

The problem is to slow the cars at the entry of the pit straight : if this option had been kept, the cars could have speed at 330 km/h at the end of the starting straight line... and that's not what they wanted...

Anyway : even if we all want more speed and performances, FIA and ACO are agree to slow the cars... that's how things goes...
