Chigley should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Thunder at The Rock

On this weekends ASCAR racecard issued with the programme I've noticed a small reference to "Thunder at The Rock" 30/31 August featuring ASCAR and the Minardi F1 team.

Checking both Rockingham's and Minardi's websites I can't find any other details regarding this. I'm assuming that it is a similar event to that at Donny last year but haven't a clue as to whether that is fact or who's organising it etc....

I'm going to ring Rockingham tomorrow to find out if this is fact or fiction, but the idea of F1 at Rockingham is mind blowing.

I heard that the Minardi charity 2 seater event was on August 7/8/9th. However, not sure if it is open to the public as the passengers paying for the rides are the ones who raise the money. I'll try and find out for sure.

Last year, when it was at Donington, it was part an event very similar to this years FIA European Challenge

Big, powerful Sportscars race on Saturday, but the main raceday is Sunday, including the Euro F3000 race and its budding F1 drivers of the future, plus Thoroughbred Grand Prix cars and Superkarts.

It appears that as ASCAR has lost 2 rounds due to weather this year the 30/31st Aug will host these 2 rounds plus it coincidences with the Minardi 2 seater track day.

However this is supposed to be organised by BARC who have suddenly had this hoisted onto them at very short notice and as to whether sufficient officials are available we'll have to wait and see.

If it goes ahead I'll be there for sure. Sorry Cadwell.

Officials? BARC haven't sent me anything yet and besides, I'll be at Spa that weekend. Couldn't they have 4 races and the Minardi thing on the 24th... to suit my calendar!!!! ;-)

A letter arrived from Karen last night asking marshals with previous Rockingham oval experience if they were available for this meeting. If you want to attend and haven't received a letter give Karen at BARC a ring.

Needless to say I'm going.

I think there is only one ascar race on the programme for this event, they will practice/quailfy on the Friday and race on the Sunday. I will be there, makes my season pass even more good value.
