Second US Grand Prix
This may have been covered in another thread, in which case I'm sure one of the moderators will merge them, but did anyone else hear Bernie Ecclestone tell Jim Rosenthal on ITV that he'd been talking to people in Manhattan about a second US Grand Prix? Most interesting. I'd always assumed that a second race, if it happened at all, would be on the West Coast, but a race in the heart of New York would be something else again. Of course, it may never happen, but if anyone can, Bernie can.

A New York Grand Prix was on the 1985 calendar.
They went to Brands instead. |

I hope something happens, but I'd prefer it to be at the opposite end of the States. It's a geographically huge country (roughly 40 time sthe size of the UK, yet with only 4.5 times the population) and people areflying less than pre-9/11.
The Indy race has done very well, and at least partially recovered from the 2002 Ferrari atrocity, so a second race could help really take F1 to the masses. New York could go down well, but I'd prefer to see a permennt road course. Anyone who follows CART will know how dull some of their street circuits are - and they didn't work for F1 in the 80s. |

Surely a second USGP would got to one of the western states? A return to Long Beach? An unrealistic dream would be Road America, hardly west coast but a bloody fantastic track none the less. I know the facilities need work but what about Sears Point? How close is it to LA, San Fran etc. ??
PS - Talking of old USGP homes, did anyone else read about The Glen getting an IRL race in '05? |

If they want another U.S. Grand Prix then it must be either on the West Coast or somewhere close to the West Coast.

As F1 fans who only get to see F1 action when it's on TV, of course we won't complain if there's more races...afterall, what's the kicks of having testing?
It'd be great to have another in the US. There are some classic tracks which would sound good. Btw, won't it be good if some tracks in Europe are turned into "non-championship" events, so that we can watch free for all racing..teams can even opt to use new/test drivers. |

No country deserves a second grand prix, I don't care where/who it is. If F1 doesn't succeed at Indianapolis, IMO it will succeed on the West Coast.

Sears Point, I fear, is a non-starter; likewise Laguna Seca. Beautiful tracks both, but the F1 circus would have a hissy fit at the facilities and lack of run-off. (Yet CART manages...) I'd have thought a second US GP would go to the west coast, but if Bernie says he's talking to people in Manhattan, I'm willing to believe him. A good street race would be fantastic, but it would need to be good; a Monaco or a Pau rather than a Denver or a Las Vegas. The CART race at Surfers' Paradise is usually good, so it can be done.

I've never been there but Road Atlanta seems pretty safe from what i've seen albeit a bit dull. Road America would be awesome.
Of course Summit Point would be ideal. Just because i live like 2 hours away.
