Mk2 Escorts (Pictures Attached)

Things have been getting a bit heavy around these threads, so here's some light relief.

If there was to be a Rally & Rallycross Hall of Fame who would you have in it.

There are four sections and there are five places in each section.
The sections are
1. European rally driver 2. UK & Irish rally driver 3. European rallycross driver 4. UK & Irish rallycross driver
Here are my choices

European Rally driver
Stig Blomquist
Henri Toivannen
Ari Vatanen
Marku Allen
Carlos Sainz

UK & Irish rally driver
Roger Clark
Bertie Fisher
Dave Metcalfe
Colin McRae
Paddy Hopkirk

European rallycross driver
Per Eklund
Martin Schanche
Olle Arnesson
Steiner Joranli
Kenneth Hansen

UK & Irish rallycross driver
Will Gollop
Richard Hutton
Trevor Hopkins
John Taylor
Dermot Carnegie

Who would you put in?

WOW What a picture

Reminds me of my youth were yuk used to take all my money for exchange of parts so we could build cars like the one in the picture (my last a replica of that very car)

And then find out what its like to kill a set of rear tyres in a thrash in one night out with the boys (eight of us all had decent mk2's )

Cheers

Marty

If I remember correctly it was June 1992, and though the rally cars were run individually Yuk's time quallyfied him in the superfinal so he came out & mixed it with the rallycross boys, but I can't remember how he did.
He was lighting the tires up lap after lap most of the tire marks you see are his.

The Mk2 bit of my username comes from the Escort I co-drive (photo at: http://www.rallygallery.com/whole_ev...mg_7598_ms.jpg )

As you say they're good RWD fun - this was originally a teracotta 1300 with a beige interior, now somewhat different with a 2 litre Zetec on 45's. It took ages to get it done but we finally got out on a rally at Longmoor at the end of December. Great fun and we were plenty sideways at times (and a bit too sideways once or twice )

Martin (the bloke who actually drives the thing) used to have a Mk2 a while back, he always said that when he could afford it he'd get another and tweak it a bit. After buying the car the level of tweaking increased to the point where he said 'sod it' and decided to rally it, I got the job of co-driver for two reasons 1) I didn't say no and 2) I'm built like a stick so wouldn't weigh the car down too much

Roundy theres a couple of quick men from Scotland showing a very keen interest in doing the event and alot of the Welsh maniacs
If all the quick men that have enquired get an entry and show up on the day I'll guarantee that it will be the BEST EVENT ever held in this country.

How about that for "FULL OF THE RACK"

It's amazing what happens when you make an off the cuff sarcastic remark.
Love the bungee cord on the white essie, what's it actually doing holding the bonnet down or the front panel up

You dont know how much you have cheered me up.

I was there on the day taking loads of pics of Yuk as I know him and I only live down the road from Langbaurgh and when I tried to take the film out to change it it got jammed and fecked up making me miserable.

Did you by any chance take anymore of him and a Red Mk4 Escort V8 that was there on the day
Thanks for making me smile as that guy was mad in that car

Hi Mark, yes I have a few more of Yuk but I only have one of Ken. There was a guy there that day called John Heseltine he was putting it about in a 1600.
I'll take the photos with me to Croft next month if you are going to be there.
heres a few to be going on with.

Yuk again

John Heseltine in a 1600
And here's one for Mark

Top man for those pics
Gavin was certainly flingin it round that day
Not sure about Croft, will have to twist Kens arm to do it
I have a pic of Ken chasing a Clan and the clan had a big enough start that he said by the first corner all he could see in his mirror was this V8 Escort behind.
The car is now on Mull but less engine as the new owner is putting a Honda S2000 engine in it
Thanks again

It's holding down the flimsy fiberglass bonnet so that the nosey parkers cant see the 2litre Vauxhall engine, on throttle bodies, thats connected to the Quaife sequential gearbox
