silencers on turbo race cars

when i turbo'd my last car, i used one fairly small silencer, and it was still quite quiet, in fact it noise tested at 97db, well below the current 105 limit, so i'm now wondering if i can get away with no silencer at all, as the turbo itself does a lot of silencing, anyone out there running a non silenced turbo?

opps, just read blue book, it says you have got to have a silencer irrispective as to to the noise your car makes!

You're right, all the plumbing in a turbo cuts both induction and exhaust noise.

Except for that annoying "whoosh" noise the boy racers get with their blow off valves!

Then just sleeve the inside of a silencer box and it will be ineffective.

i'm not tryimg to make noise, i'm just trying to avoid more weight/clutter under the car, i might split the exhaust into 2 and only have a silencer in one side

The dummy muffler idea works a treat. It's pretty easy to roll up a pretty piece of alloy to make it ook like a custom muffler.

THR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
yea make one, make it 50mm long and 150mm od. then put a pipe thro it with no holes in.
be amazed if it was still quiet enough tho! but it might be, who knows.
your right tho, if u can dump the lot!!

Just be aware that even a small silencer will provide some back pressure, and this can have a big effect on power output. You may need to re-dynotune the car.
