Zetecs at Silverstone Aug 14th
There was a good turn out at Silverstone yesterday, 34 cars! I am sure the start money tempted a few extra out, and the Avon Clubmen were also out at the same time. A few disgruntled Avon guys jumped ship to run as guests in the National as it worked out £100 cheaper to enter as a National guest rather than in the BRSCC Avon Clubmen.

I wasn't there, and don't understand how there were 4 different classes, and 27 of the 34 were over 2 seconds off the pace.. were they all Zetecs?

Yes, they were. But bear in mind this was the Clubmen taking on the National championship runners, not to mention the relatively elderly SMA Van Diemen RF97s. And given that this is a long circuit, you need to divide the gaps by two to see what they might have been at, say, Castle Combe. And it isn't that bad...

I was just looking at some pics of the event and noticed that the SMA Van Diemen RF97 runners were still on the treaded tyres that they use in the BRDC ch'ship. How come they didn't have to use slick Avons like everyone else? Also, why do they use treaded tyres in the BRDC ch'ship?

They'd have been running in a separate class and not for championship points, hence no tyre restriction, I imagine.
