GP2: Monza Bruni quits

The weekend at Monza is off to a dramatic start - Gianmaria Bruni has quit the Coloni team and is replaced by Finn Toni Vilander.

I'm really looking forward to the racing here - F3000 was usually decent at Monza so GP2 promises to be even better.

I cant imagine Bruni has another drive lined up this late in the season. He must be running low on funds.

Monfardini is no big loss really, but what can you guys tell me about Toni Vilander? Is he likely to be the next Kimi, or the next JJ?

He will not be the next Kimi or JJ, because there is only one Kimi and one JJ. Vilander has experience in Italian FRenault, Italian F3 and Italian F3000.

At Monza, I reckon he won't qualify in the top 15.

Looks like.

So on balance, Monfardini out of the series and Vilander in.

That means the overall driver level gets even stronger.

both colonis spun off after a lap.....not what the team wants in their home race.

heikki was quickest with rosberg, speed and carroll 2nd, 3rd and 4th in what i beleive will be the championship standings when this wonderful series has its final race of the year.

Clearly you haven't done a good enough job schmoozing the teams then, as they picked that award

i think the speculation about monfardini has gave him a wake up call as he has just qualified in the top 8!

top 4 in the championship qualified as they stand but carroll had more gearbox failues meaning he is last despite a strong start in practice.

Whats happened with Monfardini- he was quick in practice too! Piccione is 19th.

As for Carroll, I think we can safely predict he will be on the podium from there.

Id really like to know what happened to Carroll during qualifying, was there some sort of problem? Like the team giving him a F3 car to race in for example?????? Hopefully he can finish in the points tommorow, hes normally got the speed for it and Monza certainly is one track that is renowned for overtaking....

gearbox broke after about a lap or so. but as runshaw said, his track record from the nurbingring and istanbul may sugest he has a trick up his sleeve!! i think that trick would be stop as soon as the pit window opens and then just buckle down. but at moza he might not benefit as much from clear air as in other tracks as slipstreaming would help....i dont know.

as for monfardini well it is his home track and probably his best chance for a result all season however with speculation of bruni replacing him i think he has some extra incentive to perform this weekend!
