Sierra Cosworths in British GT?

According to Racingsportscars.com 's listings for the British GT in the mid 90s, 93-95, a number of Sierra Cosworths were entered in the British GT championship.

Sadly photos are lacking. Does anyone have any info or images of these cars?

Or just generally any images of British GTs from this period! There seems to be a lack of info on the web.

Thanks guys

Simon

The only answer I can think of to this would be that at the time The British GT Championship was going through one of it's doldrum phases, and they decided to let some Thundersaloons in to bolster the grid numbers...
(The car as homologated as a Touring Car / Saloon, not a GT).

Don't remember about Sierra Cosworths but some "Cossie" Escort raced in 1993-94, Richard Piper drove one and Mike Quaife built his own "special", IIRC

I had a look through the results on RSC, the only Sierras I can find are Nigel Mustill and Stuart Jackson. Both had Sierras in Thundersaloons, so it's likely to be those.

I also saw Gary Ward in an EsCos - could be his Thundersaloon car, too. Charlie Cox had a couple of appearances, could be in his Group N Escort.

Google them - Mustill's is black, Jackson's would have been blue / yellow by '94. Quite a few pics should come up.

http://www.rodbirley.com/Sierra.htm

Cant recall the sierras to much but do remember seeing the Nick Oatway Escort that formed the basis of one.

A couple of different shots of the sierra's in the thunderloons. I would guess they are the same cars than ran in the thundersports and then maybe the GT series.

Brian Chatfield ran one in the GT series during 94 as well

Rod's Sierras didn't run in British GT. The early GAA V6 one went to Quaife, he ran it in TS with 4wd then it went to rallycross. The Sierra-Porsche shell became Black Thunder, then onto NW Saloons in an increasingly modified form until it was destroyed a couple of years ago.

Mustill's Sierra was ex-TDR BTCC car, Jackson's was the Sean Walker BTCC car that was shared by Damon Hill in a 2-driver race, and I think it's now back in that FAI livery down in Oz.

Quaife had 2 Escorts, one for rallycross and another for circuits - I think I'm right in saying that the TS car became the GT car, and that it's still with Quaife. I was in email contact with him about the car, but it all went quiet a couple of years ago.

Nordic - are you thinking of Donington or Castle Combe Special GTs? Lots of the Thundersaloon stuff found it's home there. http://www.motorsport-fanatic.co.uk/...pecialGT1.html

The first Sierra mentioned went to Warwick Barnes for rallycross then sold to Barry Lee.

Its all merged into one giant race meeting in my mind to be honest. Knew I had seen ford saloons mixing it with GT's, assumed it had to he thundersports or Brti GT

Pretty certain the Oatway Escort ran in thundersports, this formed the basis of on of the sierras, so in a way, one did run!

BTW, Now I have started to think about the thundersports series, in its heyday it was fantastic.

Somewhere on Youtube there's some video from British GT in 1994 or 95 which features a couple of the ex-Thundersaloon Sierras which popped up in British GT- IIRC Mustill's car and Brian Chatfield (as mentioned by Nordic) As I remember (think we've talked about this in the RS500 thread) Chatfield had the ex-Laurence Bristow car, originally built as one of the Labatt's BTCC cars

As already suggested, there were quite a few Escorts- the Quaife and Gary Ward cars as already mentioned, Richard Piper in Robin Hooker's car...
http://www.robinhookerracing.co.uk/c...ng_history.htm

...and as Tim mentioned, one or two of the Group N/Prodsaloon Escort Cosworth brigade came out to play 'GT' on occasion. I definitely recall Charlie Cox, but pretty sure there were a couple of others

Yup, was there for both, whats your point?

Thundersports was the better imho, in its early years at least, Both had a wide range of cars entered, not always GT or Saloon in the truest sense, but hey they were a Libre style of formula.

My point was that some of your posts confuse the two series that's all.
