I believe Ron should be knighted for sure.

However, I'd rather it wait for a few years when all this spying/espionage/yadda-yadda crap dies down.

I can imagine if he were knighted during the next honours then people would allude to his turbulent 2007. Which would be plain wrong and take away something from the whole thing.

Can't disagree with that. Perhaps a better time is when Ron retires.

FW deserves his but it was given when perhaps the times were less complicated!

I won't sign a petition for him to be knighted because I think he's a hypocrite. But I won't begrudge him the title if he is awarded it. He deserves it for services to motorsport.

From a motorsports fan point of view, i'd always support having one of Motorsport's own to be rewarded and recognised for their efforts to motorsports, and many such.

Ron Dennis has to be recognised for doing quite a good job at the helm of Mclaren, the success he achieved for UK through winning, and i believe there are certainly more reasons to support it.

There are some debatable aspects to Ron Dennis too though, and it is up to the british people who decides whether those aspects should be in line with the knighthood. But Ron has had a long career, i personally think he should retire while he is still seen as having done a great job... then be knighted.

Damon Hill and although not in F1 I add David Leslie (aka The Bearded wonder).

Both knighted for services to facial hair

The individual to whom your present interlocuter refers via the utilization of the perpendicular pronoun has had their legally-binding nominated name inscribed upon a stochastic directory of personnel issued annually upon the renewal of the solar orbit to commemorate the addition of a single unit integer to the anno domini figure via which we determine the yearly dateness whose endeavours and donative aidments have ensured that the Executive has adopted the decision to recommend to the hereditary monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (plus associated dependencies including, but not limited to, Montserrat, Gibraltar, Ascension Island and the disputed territory within which ensign14 preposterously claims domicile) that the aforesaid individuals ought to be elevated via the medium of a carefully-honed and forged offensive gladial weapon being brought into close proximity with the shouldal area of the corpus on iterative occasions to a status commensurate with that of gentlemen of a certain martial bearing from time which has been considered immemorial since Richard Coeur de Lion who tended to deport clothing of a metallic nature and retrieve fair maidens from slavering dragonesque creatures of dark reputation.

Ensign: that's impressive!

I'd much rather see Sir Ron Dennis than Sir David Beckham, which so many people seem to think is on the cards anytime soon.

It's hard to believe that Professor Sid Watkins never received a knighthood for all his years of work in F1 - a massive oversight by the government. Maybe he's not "interesting" enough to get an honour.

Indeed. It seems more like a popularity contest, like a season of "The next British idol"

Maybe the general public should be able to recognise the efforts too, instead of us looking at things from a motorsport fan point of view, but outside of it, the same view may not be applicable/recognised to a comparable level.

Knighthoods are quite specific though, so chances are that the general public don't really understand why most people get them - they're meant to reward work in a particular field, which is why people who are really good in their own area but not particularly well-known get them. Although there are always a few names thrown into the honours list to "add interest".

I'm quite surprised that Murray Walker hasn't got a higher honour than an OBE after over 50 years commentating. If he got a knighthood, though, wouldn't it be for services to broadcasting rather than to motorsport?
