A Thousand Days Marshalling

When I started marshalling in 1986, I was advised to keep a record of dates/venues etc to enable me to apply for the British G.P.
I did that and in my job (yes really I do go to work occasionally) as a Computer Geek I set up an Excell sheet that records everything, and lo and behold when I entered the Shell Eco Marathon from Rockingham with Tuesday & Wednesday of this week it came up with the magic 1000. Imagine that, I've spent 2 and a half years marshalling - scary. This is just marshalling, without most Wednesdays at Mallory, and the days I go 'spannering' for my Brother in Law and nephew. Talk about scary.
Observing comes top with 547 days, followed by 'Clerking' at 162.

The next millenium starts at Mallory on Sunday with the BRSCC/Morgan meeting.

Wow.... That's some impressive achievement.

Got me thinking now, how may days have I done since 2002? Maybe 100? will have to try and find out now.

Never kept such complete records but started marshalling in 1974 and have typically done 25 days a year, so I guess I must be up to about 850 days, it is a bit disturbing when you think about, with over 500 of those Observing, maybe one day I will get it right!!!

Words like dinosaur and fossil never even began to speculate about the merest possibility of crossing my mind Well done, Dave. Have you projected when you might complete the next 1000?

Well on the basis that it took me 23 years to do the 1st thousand, that means 2032!
However, now I seem to be MSA Steward or Clerk rather than on the bank most meetings, I'm very doubtful that I'll ever get to do another 1000.
Got another 22 days this year already booked + whatever the MSA give me.

In the last six years I've done about 100 days a year, prior to that approx 60 days a year. I first started marshalling in 1975, at Lydden.

Well done Dave, Chris and everybody else. This is my 20th season and I think I'm approaching the 500 mark but have not checked.

Well I've backed off over the last couple of years but even so, don't even come close - despite never having ever having kept a tally.

Well done, Dave, but remember not to ignore Elaine too much in going for the next thousand!!!!

Me, I lost count after a season or two, but KayBee records all her marshalling activies in an Access database . . . well, multiple databases. . . sad, innit?

Extrapolating from her records, the first day of the Oulton Park Gold Cup will be our 400th days' marshalling; I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it!

Maybe one day I'll be able to call myself experienced!

Hey Gary, I've got loads of experience - most of it bad!
Only joking, thoroughly enjoyed it, I still get as much out of it now as I did at Silverstone that March morning in 1986.
Still can't match the racing I did in the years before that, but at least I can give back and help those that are racing now.
