I thought the GT500 Nissan GT-R was specifically without its AWD system?

I'm glad they do this. You can find true GT series all over the world. Great ones, at that. You don't really get this sort of nuttiness anywhere else though. The wilder the better - I'll get my GT kicks through FIA and ACO/IMSA. There's only SuperGT for ubersuperutlrawidebodied crazy cars battling it out amongst one another and a few 911 GT3s.

What have the ubersuperutlrawidebodied crazy cars of SuperGT to do with the Belcar? I don't see the link.

The link is the nutiness....
As it has once been described: "People with more money than brains" Kuismannen's Audi: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-05-12-001.jpg Widebodied-996 Turbos: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-05-12-044.jpg A Mini with an M3-powertrain: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-04-21-023.jpg Rearwings big enough to serve as a table for the whole crew: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-09-26-063.jpg Or an Audi-TT that puts its DTM counterparts to shame: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-09-26-023.jpg It's not as nutty as Super GT, but for some time it was probably the most insane series in Europe... |

When you think about it, it's not really bad to see GT500 going for a spec format.
Since the engines will be 3.4 litre V8s, they fit the regulations for Le Mans 2011. The Honda, Nissan and Toyota chassis are almost prototypes anyway, so they can simply make LMPs out of them, leaving the weird cars in the GT300 class. And then we have a readymade JLMS, with the big manufacturers fielding prototypes and a quirky Japan-only GT class. |

some more pics of the Corolla Axio (and a lame quote, saying they made the choose based on how great the road car was...yeah right...whatever!)

This Corolla Axio cuts the height of the cabin short by 15cm.
A sub-frame of this car is diverted from MR-S. |

According to AUTOSPORT, Hitotsuyama Racing participates in GT500 with Aston Martin (DBR9?).
This team is the private team which is famous by having run Mclaren F1 GTR and Ferrari 550 maranello. |

Good news!
although we know that the performance of the best GT500 cars is at least 3-4 seconds at lap better than a ACO/FIA GT1 car... << Do you have any ideas about the chassis number? Could 'Hitotsuyama Racing' be interested also to the Asian Le Mans Challenge with the same car ? - The Ferrari F550 Maranello own, it is the unique chassis sold by Care Racing. - The team also used a Porsche 997 RSR (ACO GT2) in the last season of Japan Le Mans Challenge >> EHM SORRY ! |

The Maserati MC12 team Goh tested was 2-3 sec slower than the top GT500 on test days. But they hadn't changed a thing at all with the earodynamics. So I guess it could be possible while having a great team of engineers getting the cars earodynamics changed within the GT500 regulations.
I think it has also something to do (well in combination with the rest) that the rear diffuser (which is placed more to the middle of the car on most GT500 cars. More between the rear axle in stead of behind it as with GT1 cars) This, I think will keep the car steady when it can be driven faster through the corners (more to the rear will handicap this through the corners)(But this is just a noobs guess after some observation ) (I think with earodynamics the 550 and DBR9 could be compared best to the old Supra GT500) Hope it just races. Wonder how it will look with asian sponsors |

The Goh's MC12 used no-restrictor (about 750cv) and full wide rear wing with original supercar regulations.
The car was faster than all GT500s on straight but the lap time was 2-3 slower then the bestlap of the class. |

It appears there is also going to be a DBR9 in GT500.
If the Maserati couldn't keep GT500 pace, I don't see how the Aston Martin will. |
