Super GT 2009
I'd heard that 2009 was to involve a rules change for Super GT, but haven't heard what those changes might be? is there any chance of the rules being synchronized to whatever the FIA/ACO/Ratel agree on? or are there plans to go in a completely different direction?...

well I know will only see two new Skylines to start the season. In the hands of the factory NISMO team.
that rules change is probably about cutting downforce to try to slow the cars. It's what they try to do every winter. I doubt the SuperGT will ever come close to the FIA's or ACO's rule book. |

Going in a different direction completely.
I believe it was ss_collins who suggested they are going to 8 cylinder, 3.4l engines for "GT500". Last edited by Fogelhund; 23 Nov 2007 at 04:14. |

If SuperGT adopted FIA/ACO rules for GT cars, it'd basically ruin any chance of JLMC taking off. SuperGT should stay unique.

With the renewed interest in ACO rules racing by the japanese manufacturers (Honda and rumours of Toyota and Nissan) it would seem to make sense in some ways. |

I wonder what Honda is going to do now if they're going to be forced into using a V8.

They're Formula Nippon engines, all GT500 manufactuers supply a unit for that series.
Re. standard dimensions, do they mean similar to the roadcar? |

Another problem is that this would seem to eliminate the possibility of foreign makes entering the series without having to invest large amounts into a new engine.
Or maybe buying a Zytek? |

or an RS Spyder engine unfortunately i don't see it fitting into a 997... Cayenne?
btw for standard dimension the put a limit to the max dimension of the car: front-rear overhang 1,020/1,060mm (da confermare) wheel base: 2,700mmĀ±30mm width: Max 2,000mm height: 1,100mm |

Sounds like Super GT rules are moving closer to ACO rules. Which would the winner of their series to race in LM24? could that be the goal?

ok, so moving well away from ACO rules, and becoming much closer to DTM or nascar.
the spec FN motors makes sense as a cost savings just because it means only 1 engine program instead of 2, although i really do wish they'd do ACO rules, it would really save them money if they were interested in racing their top GT cars later internationally (robert clarke mentioned honda were a bit interested in doing this with the next NSX). still, essentially DTM rules. i wonder if the german series will be willing to reduce engine capacity to 3.4 litres to match?... |

One remark please (or 1 question as I donĀ“t understand a small fact)
Formular Nippon engines are 3,0l - correct? So can they after a capacity-increase of 0,4l be essentially handled as "same motors" to justify the cost saving idea ?? And is this capacity increase so simple? |

Right here it is - as mentioned Super GT(500) will be going to 3.4L V8 engines, Formula Nippon will also be going over to the same engine Formula in its new Swift chassis. It makes sense for the manufacturers as Honda and Toyota supply engines to FN in the current spec (though Nissan is not in FN at the moment)
so its all change for Japanese motorsport |

FN is switching to a Swift chassis in 2009.
The current Lola chassis is a lot closer to F3000 than A1GP (all of these cars we have featured in detail over the last 12 months) Swift is not Panoz, Swift is owned by Hiro Matsu****a |

So Swift is US based but Japanese owned. Is Swift not interested in LMP racing? |
