Well , to be fair to everybody , im happy to see the MC12 disappear . If they cant build a legal car ..... stay away . Otherwise we will have another BMW like incident , like a few years back when they won their class in the ALMS with an illegal car , and who would agree with that ?

I think the MC12 case is more difficault than the BMW affair. Maserati builds the needed road cars -like Porsche the 917 thirty years ago. The regulations doesn´t define that the road car must build before the racecar.
So i think the car is not in the spirit of GT1 racing - but on the other hand i think the car fits the GT1 rules. |

They said the same about the Porsche 911 GT1 when it first came out . That it was not in the spirit of the rules , but at least it had a steel production chassis .

I´m wondering why you blame the MC12 every time but not the Saleen S7R. The Saleen also doesn´t fit to the GT1 regulations in the past or the Lister Storm GT ... |

Yes, the rulebook had been changed for MC12 in FIA GT. The real problem was the supercar regulation, but to present a car witch is to big doesnt look very good. I realy blame the MC12 every time? I think i didnt one time on gt-eins.de
Are they new Saleens sold or leased by Zakspeed, Konrad,... I think lease a racecar like F550 is the better possibilty because the car builder has to support the team or the team will give the car back. If the sell a car, some car builders dont care anymore like Saleen for a long time, F575, Are DBR9 sold or leased? |

In 2004 the max width of a car was more than 2000mm. So in 2004 the MC12 was in a "grey zone" of the regulations but get their full homologation and for new cars the overall width of the car was reduced.
And the S7R and the Storm GT are also not build after the 2005 regulations - but no one has a problem with this. I´ve my problems with FIAT and MERC too if they enter a championship but it is a fact that the car is legal. Not all the F550 are leased! |

don't think so .. There is a MotorShow here in Bucharest these days and a MC12(racing version . don't know if it's a mule or not . it has nr33) is showed .. and it has a pricetag . 750.000 Euro .. it woulnt make sense to advertise for the MC12 Stradale .. if they're not sold anymore |

Does anyone really believe that a company such as Ferrari/Maserati won't sell cars to customers when they're looking to stop sucking the life out of parent company Fiat???
Me neither... |

Do you realy believe that the MC12 brings money into the company? The current MC12 road car series is sold out and i´m sure (don´t have concret facts) that is would be very expensive to produce anthoer series if they don´t have sold the complete serie before they start producing them.
Interesting are the silenve in the past few weeks about the "new" MC12 in ACO specification for 2006... another sign for a change of the class for 2007? |

Autosport reported sometime ago that Maserati stopped working on an ACO spec MC12 already and is now concentrating on making a GT2 class Gran Sport.
It is a bit strange that both Ferrari and Maserati are competing against each other in the same market... |

The MC12 is like the Porsche 917 (who costs Porsche more than they have - but they have luck that the car was a success). A car only for prestige and racing. They earn their money with the "normal" road cars or the Trofeo cars ...

But you´re right. The problem for me is that it is not possible for other companies to win with a car witch isnt designed for GT racing. Its a regulation problem for me |

If we forbid all cars that are not build "only in the white zone" of the regulatiions we have only F550, F575 and the Lamborghini in the FIA-GT 2005 and the two Corvettes in the ALMS as season GT1 entries. At which point is the border exceeded? When FIAT or Mercedes are involved or only when the car is a front runner or when the teams PR girls have short legs? |

if you do it that way you will never got a solution. perhaps more technical regulations would work better. Well, you are right with DBR9. Dont know anything about development of C6, but they had C5R before and GM invested much money in there GT program. so perhaps the racecar designers had been involved in street car design ?

Ohh sorry.
Maybe it was just me that got so happy with the thought of Maserati in LMP. I always thought the compnay had more of a sports car feel, compared to Ferrari who had a more GT car feel. |

Uwe Alzen shook down the brand new 2006 Zakspeed Saleen in California last week. The car is now packed up and in route to Dubai for the race next month. (source: gt-eins forum).. We can expect them to run next year with at least one car for sure (most likely FIA GT).

just noticed in this weeks autosport classifieds that gpc have 2 575s and 2 360s for sale, so it looks like the team is having a clearout.
