The 'Janglia'

Can anybody remember this car?

It was a Ford 105E Anglia, which had had the body widened (!) by cutting it down the middle lengthways and new metal welded in. Oh, and it had a 3.8L Jaguar engine fitted - hence Janglia.

It was built, I think, by either Blair or Palmer of Blair & Palmer bus garages, Carlisle. I spotted it on top of one of their buses (just the shell) about 10 years ago, but wonder if it still exists.

Also interested in its contemporary history/success etc.

Thanks for any help!

Sounds as wierd as the Kiwis and their Morrari... you can guess that was a Morris Minor with a Ferrari V12.... raced in the mid sixties.

In a similar vein, there was a car called an "Escat" which raced at Castle Combe in the Special GT class a couple of times. It was a Ford Escort Cosworth chassis with a Jaguar XJ220 engine in it. The engine had to be detuned a little so that the chassis could cope with the power.

IIRC the Janglia was campaigned by Mick Hill in the late 60s and early 70s before he graduated to a Capri with a Mustang (?) engine (again IIRC) These were fearsome machines, but pretty successful as I remember. Unfortunately all my mags from that period went up in a fire ....

Anyone know Gerry Marshall, because he would have raced against it ...
