Karmann Ghia was driven by Dave Enderby, based on a Tiga S2000 chassis.
Silver & red Fiesta was Alan Smith's. Definitely raced in Wendy Wools in 1983, as was Viv Wallace's silver/purple Aalco Metro, not sure about before then though. |

no one answered the question of who had baby bertha after gerry
yes paul haywood halfpenny had it for a while but phil barak used it for a few years in MN gt series at donington its now owned by Joe ward and driven by Gerry on demo events for Vauxhall -sadly not the correct engine installed but looking great in original livery daff 33 rebuild is half done chassis rebuild nearly complete where is the Imp 2 litre BDG car the rob mason drove for george bevan? this car was originally raced by tony dickinson? with 1300 bda had march corners the amzing thing about the superloons is they used road car shells the later cars where space frames or sports cars or even f2 /f5000 chassis with bodies fitted and often these had sports car bodies for donington gt series as it was harder to justify a saloon car shape with rules demanding engine still being in the "correct" place |

pics??
this directed at Andrew Kitson : completely OT I know, but do you happen to have any photos of your own of Ronnie Peterson and the 1977 Tyrrell P34? (or anyone to that matter!). I'm producing a video of the restoration & return to racing of chassis 6 and need some photos and old film to augment the production. All the best, Gary C.

So it appears several supersaloons are being restored and considering the strength of these threads there would certainly be a lot of interest in these cars if they could appear.
My fantasy for the Goodwood FOS 2006? A supersaloon parade, and in a sepearate run - Francois Migault driving the Connew |

You are missing the point Driftwood, - I did say it was a fantasy!
Barry Boor has suggested on another site that it could happenbut a lot of money is required, though it appears the desire is there. Any way back to the thread - I see Keith Norris posts on here, any clues as to why the Beetle is for sale? |

it was not lost on me the idea of of superloons running at FOS- but the Connew is fantasy!!- i think it ony ran once in its life where there 1 or 2 chassis built? i would guess Keith has seen the cost of rebuilding the beetle as greater than its finished value and then what do u do with it? race it at lydden or oulton park GT events? i recall the beetle at lydden in the 80`s with Gary Charlwood who raced it a few times after he had the Janglia and Jag engined Capri i doubt any circuit or race club would want to give time to demos runs for these cars so perhaps the FOS is the type of event to see them run perhaps with the original constructor/ drivers so far we could have the Daf 33 Baby Bertha and possibly the Beetle the DFVW is now sports car again but what about some of the big Capris? there are a few Skodas floating around that where not Group 6 racers I think Peter Baldwins Mini is still around ( perhaps in his garage?) so it is not out of the fantasy notion to see some of these famous club racers running again |

I found this site again, while I thought it had info on Bob Jane's '68 car, which either was removed or I am thinking of the wrong site, it did have information on Gardner's car. http://www.ponysite.de/transam.htm Bob |

Fabulous Times!
Just got round to reading all you guys have written about those great days. I count myself really lucky to have been part of it. It really was an innovative time, with all sorts of hybrids appearing. Sadly I don't think we shall ever see the likes of it again, due to decibel meters, and costs. Looking at some of the lists of names of the drivers of that era, has taken me back to my younger days, and what a great bunch they were. Anyone remember Billy Shepheard and his A.40, Tom Powell and his Mini, or Nick Birch and his Imp? I could go on rambling like the old bloke I am, but once again GREAT TIMES! Gerry SWISH Taylor Anglia.

I don't think decible metres are the problem Gerry, I have side exiting short exhausts with Hooker Turbo mufflers (very cheap and effective) and with a tuned 5.7 small block Chevy (de rigour engine for special saloons) get it under 100db. the trick is to fit a balance pipe as that knocks the sound right down and increases power. I would not let the sound thing put people off we just have to learn to live with it.

Colin's Pictures!
Hi Col, Gerry here. Where on earth did you get all these photographs from? You must be one of very few that have managed to find them after all these years, they really are excellent. Anyone that has not seen Colin's Special Saloon Pic's should go to www.racing70's.co.uk It's something else! As you know I have been trying for years to get hold of a video/8mm movie of any of my races without any luck at all, and yet I remember literally dozens of people filming at tracks all over the country. Funny eh, not one movie. So thanks to guys like Colin we can still enjoy those great innovative days. Gerry.
