Best Aussie Touring car

What do you think was the best Touring car ever to race in Australia. I reckon it'd have to be the Nissan GTR. What do others think

ooohhh i love that Alfa.

the GTR would have to be one of the best..but what about say Lowndes 1996 championship car ..or the 1989 Ford sierra that Johnson ran ..or what about the V12 jaguars that decended on bathurst in 1985 ..now they were a nice piece of kit.

i guess there are plenty of others as well

The VT Commodore V8 Supercar pretty much dominated V8 Supercar for 2 years ( they still continue to be competitive to this day huh Big Kev ?)so would have to be up there - or is that just because the AU was initially such a dud ?

YES the GTR would be right up there but the best touring car is BMW M3 evo II it had the sweetest note before have put a rev limter on it plus it was the only car to beat the might GTR twice . So that's my pick

Dick Johnsons Greens Tuf XE Falcon. That was a beast of a car, pitty about the trees.

The last of Dicks sierras was also a very nice peice of machinery

I agree- the DJR Sierra's from 1992 with the 'Shell' signage and the gold wheels looked mean...but it was actually on of the original cars. The car that came second at Bathurst won in 1989.

Norm Beechey's 350 Monaro. It made a change from Mustangs and Camaros.

And it won the championship!

Only because the AU is/was a dud... Take a look at the Konica series. The Fords are getting whipped at every race, because only the early model AU's are allowed to race, where as in the Shell Series, it is pretty much even, to a certain extent.

My fav? Probably the Ford Sierra. When I first watched Touring Car races, probably in the early 90's when I was only about 7 years old, it was the Sierra's I went for, and till this day, I still love them. Great cars. Oh, and Bathurst 1992 springs to mind when I think about the Sierra. Dick should have won that one..

-The latest model AU is allowed in the Konica series- Harris is the only one using the latest spec spoiler though. I think the thing going against the Fords in that series are the number of pro/basically-pro teams. And yeah, the Au was a dud for 2 years...

I must have left my brain in my other head...

How come the Konica AU drivers are still using the old spoilers. They appeared to make a reasonable difference to the Fords in the Shell Series.

I attended Rounds 1 and 2 of the Konica Series. About 3/4 of the AUs were using the new air dam whilst the remaining 1/4 were using the old one.
