A1 views?
Any thoughts about the A1 series due to start later this year?
How it might influence F1 or not as the case may be? I welcome it as a series but in respect to F1 I would hate a common standard car approach. Cheers Peter |

Hi ST...
I don't mind it being moved but it was posted in relation to F1...lol. How, if it proves successful, how it might influence F1 for example, with regard to standardised cars, engines etc? Cheers Peter |

The A1 series is a good thing because it happens in the winter, while F1 is in the summer and it is country vs country instead of driver vs driver. In other words it should not affect F1.

Bernie certainly sees it as complimenting F1 rather than competing.

I'm glad you brought this up KB, I've been thinking about A1.
Surely this is not making sense. The promoters claim that the franchises were bought by leading businessmen etc., do you really believe that someone like Surtees gives a toss about some rich Sheik's series? Enough to actually pay big money for a franchise?? Or the South Africans? I don't think so. Pakistanis? Turks? Who in the world is prepared to shell out for an unknown sporting event? Nobody! Has the promoter agreed trade deals with the countries and is paying for the racing himself? What's going on here? |

I think that it will really take off. Personally if it produces good close racing with overtaking then it will be higher up my viewing agenda than F1. Plus they will be racing at Brands - possibly the very best spectators circuit in the country.

Oh cynical...skyblue ...lol.
Stranger things have happened. I just wondered as some things incorporated in the A1 rules have been mentioned in F1 circles if they may have some influence in the future of F1. Mad Max would go for single design, if not make engines, for example...all in the interests of reducing costs...of course. Knowing MM he'll probably demand 15oo V5's one year then 2.2 Straight 8's the next. Cheers Peter |

FormulaOne will most probably pay close attention to it, if it makes money, if it has viewers, if it has big names, and then, copy their ideas!

Im very interested to see how it turns out. It seems a great idea, but maybe the driver lineup isn't going to be great. But at least its something to watch whilst most racing has finished, and i will be there at Brands for sure.

Sorry, I took it as more of an A1GP thread - feel free to start another thread in the F1 forum on standardising it along the A1GP lines - I can visualise the replies already though! ST |

There is already a thread here on A1GP. When I saw this one I wondered if it was going to be about the view from the main road north from London! Suggest the two could be merged?

I think people are confusing A1GP (a good idea by an Arab of standing) with the fabled GPWC (the Grand Prix World Championship that the six sisters keep threatening BE with)
