oh i agree totally, if you design and manufacture a component that subsequently failed in its normal use, then you havent designed it properly simple as.
ive just finished building a small single seater vehicle, which during its first laps bent the rear pushrods, while we had understood the forces going into it, we hadnt realised that with the wall thickness of the tubing we were using, the sudden transition between normal loading (weight of car, downforce created by the diffuser etc) and the moment at which cornering force is excerted onto it caused the pushrod to buckle at its centerpoint and colapsed. we didnt create a light component, we did however create a component that wasnt fit for its purpose and replaced them with stronger pushrods.
