How much does it cost to run you car every year?
Taking the petrol price even further I was wondering how much do you spend on your car every year. That includes petrol, insurance, taxes and maintenance among others.
For me: Petrol: US$19 every 1.5 weeks = US$627 a year Taxes: US$65 a year Insurance: US$370 + US$70 for the mandatory insurance =US$440 Maintenance: About US$300 a year including oil changes Total: US$1432 every year How about where you live? |

In Iowa in the U.S. I pay around $800/yr for insurance. Fuel costs are harder to pinpoint because my driving varies a lot depending on time of year and what I'm up to, but is probally fom $1000 to $1500 per year. Oil changes are $80/yr and other maintenance averages out to around $250/yr. I think the licensing is roughly $30/yr. This means the total is somewhere around $2100 to $2600 per year.

Strange as it may seem, I've no idea.
I need to use my car, so I just do, without keeping note of costs. |

I know one thing, I wish I was running a car in the US rather than over here, I do 30,000 miles pa so believe it's something like below
2 sets of tyres @ £850 / set = £1,700 30,000 miles @ 25 m/gallon = approx £5,000 Insurance - FOC Tax - £180 Servicing - Approx £1,200 All this excludes finance! God, maybe I should start flying |

What car pays £180 PA tax, uses 2 sets of tyres per 30K miles and £1200 servicing? Sounds a tad OTT to me.

Most cars, using the old capacity rules, over 1500cc pay nearly £180 tax.
My car however is £85 PA in tax...one saving, it's a 1.6 Turbo Diesel but it's now down to the emissions. One saving at least! |

I know it's a tad picky but I just taxed my car yesterday and it was £170. It's an ozone layer depleting, smog producing, gas guzzling, road hogging, child killing, eco destroying Land Rover Discovery diesel which is about as expensive as it gets to tax.

Being a student I can only afford 6 months TAX at a time, which cost more.
1200 is only 100 a month, considering some garages can charge 400 per service. My car only manages about 6K per set of front tyres. |

very cheap for gas / petrol is usa, about four times cheaper so it costs the same to run a 12mpg sports car / suv in usa as it does to run my 45 mpg super mini!!! in uk
