PROCAR Television 2002
Look at www.procar.com.au
Pretty good deal, even if it is SBS, and also on FOXTEL, and the live coverage of Sandown looks good as well. |

Sandown being live is excelent, like the nice old days. What was behind the sppilt between PROCAR and Channel 10, did Mr Cochrane have anything to do with ?

My mail tells me the Channel 10 split has something to do with paying up readies for coverage that didnt happen, ie the LeMans race. Procar paid for the years coverage but deleted the fees for the non existent Le Mans race. Ch 10 seems to think they should still be paid for the race... Dunno if it's true, but would make sense for the quick dumping.

Flaggie- I wouldn't put that past them- one would have to think that it is a monetary problem that made them jump off the Ch10 bandwagon.
Even though it doesn't look that good, I think it will probably be a bit of a positive for the class. For starters, SBS gets shown over many more parts of Australia than Channel 10, and apparently this gives Speedweek better ratings that Trackside. Another plus is that there will be much more racing shown on SBS, and more classes. Plus SBS only has 5mins of ads in ever hour...and we all know how shonky Ch10 can be in that respect. Procar will be producing the shows themselves, so it shouldn't be too bad (remember the old TOCA days? A fair few of the people who were involved with that are now at Procar). One sticking point though maybe what happens at places like Bathurst, Adelaide, Canberra and the Gold Coast, where Ch10 has the exclusive rights for broadcasting. About the only way they could do anything is by not shooting anything that is happening on the track....I can see this becoming a bit messy. But hey, maybe they'll ask the Formula Fords and the Sports Sedans back onto the Gold Coast program I wonder what their second enduro will be? How many race meetings are there at Bathurst these days?? |

I don't detect any cynicism or sarcasm in that last post of yours, do I, RaceTime?

Now that the Cougar Girlie has been deported... we're going to have the "Plain White Bridge", also, will they drop the 'S' from 'Shell Corner' too?
If it is late enough in November (not coinciding with the biggest junket of the year- the Noosa Hillclimb which is on the 17th) I might consider going down... then again, I'm thinking of going to Darwin- I might have to ask Mr Commonwealth Bank for a favour |

It may as well be if we continue to get utter **** like we got in 2001 served up as a race. I was bored witless the whole day.

First, and possibly most importantly- yes, (if Chesty Bonds is a real name) Ms Chesty Cougar-Girl has been deported from Australia for having an expired visa (she probably should have signed up for a Mastercard...).
And Darwin- I'm very much open to suggestions.... at the moment it seems that a lot of the Improved Production guys will be heading up there for it, and I might be able to get a bit of work by going up there. Fingers crossed nothing else comes up on May the 19th... |

You won't need a rain check - the race is held during the dry season...

2002 will make or break Procar.
I'd like to see them succeed but I'm not real confident SBS is the way to go. But I guess when Channel 10 kick you outta home, Channel 9 treat F1 with such disrespect and Channel 7 soild Bathurst and killed the Super Tourers I guess you have no choice left but to give them a go. |

I don't know, with SBS they get approximately 40 Hours coverage I believe, Sandown live. I read also that they will be getting international coverage aswell. Can anyone confirm? So I believe its all heading in the right direction for PROCAR.
Also 2 bud Mustangs moving up to Nations Cup, should be special. |

There are a couple of drawbacks with SBS I can think of. At the moment they can't decide what timeslot Speedweek will occupy. Was 5pm Sunday then 3:30pm Saturday...last week they decided to bump it to 4pm Saturday. Also, Speedweek would get dropped in an instant for a week to show some boring game of soccer.
And - what percentage of TV owners can watch SBS ? I've only had SBS for about 2-3 years as we didn't have the UHF arial to pick it up. How many people do you know that can't even watch SBS yet ? Is that still a factor ? Go the Lambo ! Cheers Buck. |

The thing is that many more people have access to SBS than they do to channel 10- 10 doesn't go to places like Tasmania and many regional areas.

Also Speedweek is shown on foxtel at a pretty regular time. I think they will do just fine, although i'm not sure that SBS is a long term thing. Hopefully the quality and commentary will be better than the Oran Park round shown on SBS.
