Shelsley Walsh Thanks
After an extraordinary meeting today, I'd just like to express a few thanks.
To the MAC and everyone involved in the provision of the new marshals' club facilities. Two lovely rooms (with a nice view as well) which were very much appreciated by the marshals. Quality beer - and I'm told good wine - was also well received. To Ed Cottom for the provision of raffle prizes including two tickets for Silverstone which were happily won by two marshals attending for the first time. Most importantly, though, a big thanks to the marshals who performed magnificently throughout a busy day. I can't remember a day with five proper emergency calls, two of which were for rolled single seaters. Drivers all escaped injury from some dramatic incidents and the marshalling was exemplary throughout. Well done and many thanks to everyone. |

I had a great day. I've found myself grinning all day and struggling to be sympathetic (some say i always struggle with that one). As Chris has said, lots of action, all dealt with coolly & professionally, whilst having fun. Good to see new facilities, new marshalls, and visitors from Oz.
Somebody talked of the rolling single seater between S approach & bottom S being caught on video....any idea if the footage can be viewed anywhere? C |

...this was my first time.
Haven't been racing many years.
And never to this kind of event. And I had, quite simply, one of the best days I can remember! What a great bunch of people you guys are! I came to take pictures of a recent restoration project he'd been involved in - but I reckon I'm totally hooked! Now - I took a whole heap of detailed pictures of the Cooper Bristol for him, but many others too - just in the pits and on the start line - but of course being a first-timer - I know nothing. I don't know what they are! Or who anyone is - so I have a couple of questions.... Is anyone interested in seeing them? And would anyone please kindly help me to identify the others so I might catalogue them correctly? I haven't been passionate about photography in a long, long time...and found myself rustier than I am comfortable with - but I do believe I have some shots some individuals might like to see? Thank you so, so much. My warmest thoughts to you! I'll be back. |

There is another video on youtube now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJYKqBizLH0
It's a better view of the accident but then goes on to an unnecessary close up of the recovery. Actual that user seems to have lots of clips of hillclimb accidents. Quote:
I don't post here often so I hope it's ok to link to my site to help answer a question. |

Hey Mr Brayspeed, When are you going to make a compilation DVD with all the best of hillclimbing plus the worst?
A quick look at your history and UK track etc I think it would be great! Just want to add another one to my collection! |

Further thanks due for this week-end's meeting (30-31/5) when numerous spins and a few good hits as well as resurfacing large areas of hill following some comprehensive engine failures kept everyone busy on a very hot week-end. Well done all.
Hopefully this time there won't be YouTube footage of a marshal falling off the sleepers at Bottom Ess (no it wasn't me!) |

Nope, not the new ones at Top Ess, the one that have been there for years at Bottom Ess. Don't know what happened, I was sitting in the car, heard a thump and looked in the door mirror to see a marshal lying on the floor. At least all the other marshals did the right thing under the circumstances. They laughed!

The busy season continued today with a nasty looking incident above Top Ess, fortunately without serious consequences. The driver managed to recreate several of the season's highlights in a single incident (upside down, leaking both fuel and oil and unable to escape without assistance).
As it was Mrs Woolley's first tryout as I/O on Top Ess (ably guided by Piston Broke), it was a scary moment for her to deal with, and I'd like to say a huge thank you to the many people who gave her support afterwards. She's was more than a little shaken, but as usual the team were brilliant and helped her through the aftermath. She's very grateful to you all. |

sounds like a busy weekend...
i am gutted that it looks like I won't be at Shelsley for the rest of the season... A busy summer of weddings and the other half being away on a stag do the weekend of the national means that I won't be there... |

So the Shelsley season has come to an end already. Hardly seems a week since it started.
We seem to have had a greater number of difficult incidents to deal with, culminating with yesterday's TVR whose bent exhaust rendered the car completely immobile until it could be removed. Throughout the season marshalling numbers have been sufficient, and often exceptional and I'd like to say a big thank you for everyone who has turned out and assisted during the season. We've had a number of new marshals to welcome, and the occasional appearance of a driver helping out on a day when not driving which is always welcome. The new facilities have been popular and are beginning to feel like home as various photographs, seats and electricals have appeared, and we're very grateful for the provision of such an impressive room. It was good yesterday to see Bob Dayson in attendance, sadly looking very frail but in good spirits and on one occasion managing to escape the pushers of his wheelchair and heading off down the slope to the hospitality area with the same vigour as he's usually to be seen heading up the hill. Simon Durling also made it home briefly on Saturday receiving an ovation from spectators and marshals. It was very nice of Charlotte to visit the marshals' briefing on Sunday and update us on his condition. It will be a long recovery and he is to have a further operation to assist the wound's healing. Finally Alan Hull was not with us this week-end, sufferring an infection which has confined him to hospital. To all of the above, we wish the very best in their recoveries and hope that they are soon on the mend. I look forward to seeing those who will be attending any of the off-season social events, and hope you will enjoy a well earned end of season rest before returning to the banks for the new season. |

I had a fabulous time this weekend and a fab end to a busy season for me. At last the grass is being embraced by drivers at top paddock and some of them are even choosing to park on there... well done you guys.
I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone who is unwell at this time. See you all soon xxx |
