SCCA FB didn't allow the BDA/BDD so a 722 in FB would have run a Ford twin-cam. I'm still not sure whether Divisional and Regional SCCA FB in 1974 - the year the Canadian 'Pro' series moved to F/Atlantic - allowed BDAs.

If only he had given his 722 to his honorable best second son, life would be good! Last edited by SteveTracy; 19 Aug 2010 at 05:00. Reason: added text |

presumably the French one is the one just put on Race Cars Direct. Effectively a chassis plate and a bit of the tub....

Can-Am chassis
...It is a 722 that was written off at a race in 1982 and stored in a gage since then. We're going to take a look at the remains and purchase later this month.
It also includes a spare March chassis, number and type unknown. We're looking to get this chassis back on the track within a few years. |

722-38
We've taken a look at the 722-38 chassis mentioned above and have made a deal on it. Now it's just a matter of time until it comes home. Along with it another march chassis was included, a 75B serial no. 3.
I'll have a lot of questions regarding these chassis soon after they make the trip home and we get everything sorted through. This guy has another formula chassis but we're keeping it under wraps for the time being The 722 is a write-off as it's been absolutely bend in the middle and the front is smashed up to the bulkhead. Although I'm sure it could be rebuilt...I guess Marc Bahner has everything to do it. Cheers, Lawrence |

Just got a little more history on this chassis from the current owner:
"....Chuck Willis said that Ron Dykes wrecked the original monocoque to come into the States. Now where they got the replacement chassis that I crumpled, I don't know. It may have come from Hawaii. I think it was Pete Halsmer who lined me up with Willis when I bought the BT29. Chuck of CRW was one of the top Formula Atlantic mechanics in his day, being a mechanic or manager or whatever in the FA championship series that was popular then....Keke Rosberg and Gilles Villeneuve were two of the participants along with Marty Loft from the NW plus Householder, Storr and Munro from the NW ran a few of the races west coast races. Pierre Phillips ran cars in that series. However, I think my car may have never ran in that series as most of the conversation I had with Chuck about it was California racing....or it was bought to run that series and didn't However, after I bought it, started racing it, only with the rotary, in 1981 until the embankment in Sept of 86. Raced it in CanAm starting July of '84 and the last race I finished was the CanAm race in St Louis in August of 86. So I am the only driver that drove the car in CanAm. There was a reporter from Speed Sport News that had a big duffle bag with 4 or 5 three ring note books with every detail of every Can Am race ever run. He was the ultimate Can Am fan. Every time a former driver would show up, he'd corner them and review each notebook for details of each race he ran. He spent over a half hour with Lou Sell who I recall only ran the St Louis races during my years. He was in that fiery crash at Riverside years before. He walked around in shorts and his legs were badly scared except the back of his thighs where he was sitting on the seat during the fire. Not only did he question Lou, but also Lou's competitors in the races he ran. Lou was the only winner in CanAm in a two litre car. From the notebooks, he told me I was the only March 722 driver. He applied the original points system to all the races and on that basis, I was 200th in overall points tied with Joakim Bonnier. Take a look: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/St_Louis-1985-10-13.html It rained hard 3/4ths of the race and the V8's against instruction blocked me in every corner. When the cars came up to lap, would tuck in behind and passed a bunch of cars that way. Then it stopped raining and and about a half dozen cars passed me back. I had some really old Firestone rain tires that showed remarkable traction in the wet. Had a wild pass on Mike Engstrand coming through a large puddle at near top speed. I've been pulling up all the history I can on my career with this car." He has told me that the serial number stamped on the roll bar is 46-200. SCCA region 46 is Hawaii. I'm thinking that he's looked the number funny and it's maybe a 96 which would be Oregon. Any thoughts anyone? Lawrence |

It's all in the numbers
After a few minutes on the inter-webs I found another March 722, chassis number...38.
The guy is in Colorado. He bought his chassis in 1999 from a man in California and was asked which serial number he'd like on it. The man opened a desk drawer and pulled out several tags apparently. The chassis has been damaged and is sitting in storage. Still working to get this other 722-38 home but with the issue of no log book we're unsure of how long this will take. |

It's been several months since our last post and we're sorry to report that Bill Hill was killed in an apparent fireworks explosion.
We've contacted his widow regarding his chassis but have heard nothing. |

Reost #690.
I too own a 722 which has a doppelgänger being sold now. When I alerted the public to this fact, I was slammed. No one seems to care about multiple chassis plates. While I had a shop at Sears Point Raceway, the man with a desk drawer story was well know by many. |

722
I'm a March FF owner and wondering about a 722 first owned by Canadian Ric Forest. In my conversations with him, he said that starting in the winter of 69-70, he stayed in the UK waiting for his car to be built and worked at their factory. He did this for his 709 chassis 1, his 719 chassis 2 and his 722 but didn't know the chassis number.
He said that about 20 years later, Allan Lader offered it back to him but he declined due to space or some other reason. Allan would probably have purchased the car late 1972 or early 1073. Any idea on this car? It's the orange #56 pictured on the Canadian FB page for 1972 on OldRacingCars.com! |
