Passed my ARDS test yesterday, need a beginner race serk to get into.
I passed my ARDS test yesterday and im hoping people could give me some ideas and advice of a beginner and relatively cheap race series to start off in next season. I have been looking at maybe stock hatch or fiestas to gain experience in next season so if anyone can share past experiences or views of these series it would be greatly appreciated! or alternatively i would love to hear other suggestions. I eventually would like to work up to Formula fords as i have more passion for open wheelers so again if anyone knows of an open wheel series i could gain experience in i would love to hear it.
Please could you give a rough estimate of average season costs including car, registration etc. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Danielg497; 6 Jul 2012 at 19:16. |

You could take a look at MSVR Trackday Trophy series or one of the series the 750MC run. Costs can vary considerably even down to registration, some clubs are cheap others like to charge a lot, I pay a total of £75 membership and registration with one series I do, certain clubs will charge double or treble that. Expect races to average £200-£300 depending on time, circuit and club involved. Car costs can be as much or as little as you want to spend but it's often cheapest to buy a ready prepared car or even go for an arrive and drive set up for the series you fancy doing.

Although single seaters would appear to be expensive the opposite can be found in things like formula Vee that are relatively cheap to buy, and run.
Also easy to work on and transport with a small tow car/trailer it gets you into single seater racing for a start and you learn racecraft as they are similar in power. Whatever you finish up doing I hope you enjoy yourself and get decent results. I know it's difficult to put an old head on young shoulders but believe me we have all been there and seeing your age you may want to go into the "hot hatch" type racing it's up to you ! or you could just start with a FF.
SEMSEC / Monoposto etc., all ideal series for beginners. |

if youre interested in single seaters anyway, check out Formula Vee, best budget single seater series around and full grids at every round this year..

Thanks for the info guys!
Thanks guys for the lots of advice even if Tim and Gordon did go a bit off topic in the end! . I am probably going to give Saxmax a try either next season or the season after, maybe with a few track days in between.

Don't put it off until the season after next. There's *never* a good time to start racing, if you put it off now until 2014 there'll be a million even better reasons to put it off again in 2014. Also, people better experienced than me will be able to tell you when your ARDS test expires if you haven't taken out a licence, and all the expense of test, medical W.H.Y. will be totally wasted if you have to re-take it.
Strike while the iron is hot and you're still keen! Where do you live? There's some really good local series where you can get started for reasonable money - one in particular being the Welsh Saloon series at Pembrey which is offering stonking value at the moment. There are even some people doing arrive & drive at reasonable rates. PM me if interested. |

750MC Classic Stock Hatch - perfect place to start - easy cars to work on, cheap to buy - championship winning cars have sold for under £3k.
