Racing slicks advice for 185/55R14

Dear all,

It is requested you please clear some confusions of mine regarding tire size.

I am doing Autocrossing since 3 yrs racing on street legal tires and now all my competitors have slicks on their ride like kumho.. v710, etc. and i want something better for our dry surface and hot weather throughout the year.

I have a prepared Honda Beat 660cc Kie car
and my ideal tire sizes are:


185/50R14 (Front & Rear)

THE LOWER THE PROFILE POSSIBLE IN RIM SIZE : 14. I dont even mind the combination of 185/55R14 in front & rear. please advice if this would be ok or i should keep the front size different.

I see that Yokhohama is producing
1. Advan Y801. 185/525-14. N1727
2. Advan A005. 180/530-14. N1608
3. Advan A005. 185/55R14. N1828

Please guide me what is the best combination for my vehicle.

Also most importantly plz tell me what does 530?? means in180/530-14

is it 50 profile ratio or 55 ??

I really want some one expert to guide me in choosing slicks on this liitle monster as speed is limited but this car has excellent conering and handeling!!

Also there are Hoosier R6 185/60ZR13 which i am thinking of putting in front but on the hoosier site it says they are not for autocrossing??? plz advice if any oneone has driven them on Autocross. Dry surface.

Another brand i see is the kumho 195/55R14
Ecsta v710 which can go in the rear or on front and rear both. but they are getting as wide tires in my lil car... and the percentage diameter difference to the original is 2.9.
will it lower my speed as i dont have much speed anyways! and cant get any sizes in 50 profile!

So in total i come down to 5 questions:

1. Are there any full slicks available in size 185/50R14 , 195/50/R14 , 185/55/R14.

2. Should i consider in putting different sizes in front and rear. Honda Beat is RWD. engine at rear.
Standard tire size: 155/65 R 13 H (F); 165/60 R 14 H
Tire width (mm): 165
Tire sidewall factor: 60
Rim size (in): 14
Total wheel diameter (mm / in): 554 / 21.8

3. Advan A005 dry / Y801 dry vs Kumho Ecsta V710. which is better ?

4. Advan Y801 185/525-14. what does 525 stand for? how much is this tire profile and will it fit a regular 14" RIM?

5. does yokohama advan A005 produces 185/55R14??

budget is not a problem as i been sponsered and need to decide sizes .

530 is notihng to do with profile ratio it means the overal height of the tyre in mm, so a 530 is 530 mm in total hieght from the ground to the top of the tyre, best advise is to measure the overall height of your current treaded tyre & then you can work out if the 530 is going to be taller or smaller etc

if 530 is the rolling diameter do you need to know the weight on the tyre and the pressure in the tyre to make a valid comparison?

530 is the diameter, sidewalls will be quite stiff so, weight on the car will have negligible effect

Thanks for the help andy and yup i have been searching on it so i get that its in mm and its the tire dia. So basically Advan A005 Dry, whose size is 180/530R14 has an over all diameter in yokohama chart of 535mm / 21.06 inch. Section Width: 191mm / 7.52 inch Recommended Rim Width: 6.5.

Will this rim width 6.5 inch(?) fit standard 14" Rim?

So what I analyze from seeing my car stats, which tells me that my car came with stock tires which had Total wheel Diameter (mm/ in): 554 / 21.8.

And the subject tire Diameter is 535mm. So what it seems like that it should fit perfectly.

And yeah andy is there any way i can know the profile of this tire in 50,55,60 format?

Please if anyone can correct me if i am wrong or let me know if i am right so i can purchase the tires with confidence.

you can work out the aspect ratio of say a 630 height slick, but once your racing nobody uses aspect ratio's so your better off working in overall tyre height, measure your exsisting road tyres with tape measure for overall height & work from there, pretending you have nenver every heard of aspect ratios !
