Radial and crossply slicks rim differences

Hi, Can anyone give me some advise regarding the difference in rim widths for similar size radial and crossply slicks.

I have used a gear calculator to select the tyre diameter for what i am doing (drag racing) but before i go and buy brand new tyres i would like to try some 2nd hand ones a friend has, From my calculations i need a 21 or 22" tyre.

I have both pairs of slicks now, 1 set is a 8.0 21 13 avon crossply and the other set are avon radial 210 55 13.

I still need to buy the wheels which leads me to the question i have, both tyres are almost the same diameter and width, however on the avon site for the crossplys the rim recommendations are from 7 to 9" but the radials say 9 to 10"

I was planning on running 8" wheels, will it be ok to mount the 210 550 13 radial on an 8" rim?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Joe
