I could be wrong... but in my gut I feel this is mischief making on the part of McLaren. I'm sure Dennis and Whitmarsh know exactly what their plans are for the next few years... and Alonso's unlikely to feature in them.

This is the classic silly season. They're probably testing Ferrari, to see how loyal they are to Alonso currently.
Perez/Button is pretty good, and has the potential to be the best, but McLaren need to provide a car that suits both before they can think about winning. |

I like the way Mclaren are thinking on this if true. But Alonso won't want to go there. Not because of bad blood or anything like that but because the cars haven't just been up to the mark.

Potentially trying to drive up the Telmex money to retain Perez, perhaps? Cannot see Fernando going back there...but then I couldn't really see Kimi heading back to Ferrari! Button's apparently helping to fuel the rumours too...

If Alonso joins it will not be until the end of 2014 and McLaren obviously have no intention of a repeat of 2013... Many others will also be hoping the same, that 2014 would be a restoration to competitiveness |

I just can't see it either. I doubt the mechanics would be able to look the guy in the eye after his epic 2007 meltdown for a start. How can you take him seriously if that's your experience of working with him?
Then again, Dennis is not as prominent and there is no audacious rookie there anymore so maybe it could work? |

Well, I never thought for a moment that Raikkonen would join Alonso at Ferrari, so I now work on the basis that anything could happen.

And another thing.
If this was football, McLaren would be charged by the FA with bringing the game into disrepute for unsettling another team's player. This does nothing to alter my long held and completely objective (ahem ) view that McLaren are a bunch of *****. |

And:
http://en.espnf1.com/ferrari/motorsp...ry/125861.html But please, keep the driver threads coming or just combine this news with soon to be created mega driver thread entitled: "Alonso, Who Vettel Would Blow Away Now That Raikkonen Has Joined Ferrari After Massa Left Ferrari, Says He is Not Planning to Leave Ferrari Unless MacLaren Isn’t Good For Button!" |

A masterful bit of gamesmanship by McLaren:
Unsettle Ferrari Unsettle Alonso Put some pressure on for a few mil of extra Mexican money Put some pressure on Checo to raise his game |

Nah
'Nando knows that Ferrari is his butter spreader for the next three years and would like to renew the contract and go further (See Gp update) into the future if he can.... Its just gamesmanship as indicated above... But McLaren has Magnussen and Vandoorne waiting in the Renault 3.5 wings so there's their future prospects already in waiting. The next Hamilton? |

No Alonso at McLaren next year. Won't happen.
But, next year will be Sergio's last at McLaren as a full time driver. Is what I believe. |

Now you're telling me he's not fast enough? He may be passed over for 2015, but only if they find someone who is much faster, or a Hamilton, or Alonso |

Button is the known quantity and they know he can't take it to Alonso, Vettel or Hamilton on a consistent basis, so that is one seat that will definitely be free at the end of next season, unless of course the car is title winning calibre in which case his experience will come to bear.... With Checo they still think he has something, the potential to at least be better than Jenson and i'm sure they would prefer to keep one driver than change completely. I bet that they will keep whoever outshines the other next season but then again in the car is rubbish again why would either driver want to stay anyway? |

Fernando will end up at McLaren in 2015 in my opinion.
