int F3 races???
hi i have a few qeustions regaurding the end of year international F3 races like Macau and Korea. How/ who gets to participate, are the top teams from each series invited and the top drivers from each series invited or is it just the teams and drivers who have a budget to get there. Also last year an australian driver (peter hackett) race at mucau with Carlin would he have got this drive as a result of winning the AusF3 series or did he and his sponsors have to fund the drive (a one off with Carlin would proberbly cost the same as half a season of AUSF3 season right?)
thanks... |

Generally speaking the drivers are given an invite to the race, but it is up to them to find the budget to actually compete. The price with the team would depend on the teams view of how good the driver was.

Anthony Davidson's gonna be James Courtney's team mate (with Carlin) this year at Macau - should be interesting.

In an ideal world, all the top teams form each national series is approached to compete. However, as budgets dwindle at the end of the year, teams need to look for other drivers to fill their spare cars. It all gets a bit messy - but at least the fields are still big.
I seem to remember Heikki Kovalainen getting a ride with Fortec after Bruni pulled out. He was partnered by some hopeless Macanese driver in Macau and by Australian F3's Daynom Templeman at Korea. Heikki did a good job - the others didn't... |
